So, unless I misinterpreted the previous posters, it appears the general consensus is that the twists are mostly Virginia leaf, albeit a darker variety.
At any rate, I must be a big fan of these darker, African Virginias. I've also heard that this is what is used in Royal Yach, and I love both the twists and RY. I actually just ordered half a pound of G&H Rum Twist. Looking forward to it.
That was an interesting video! He seems to know what he's talking about, and his implication is that these ropes are entirely made out of Virginia leaf. But as this thread elucidates, not all Virginias are created equal.It's my understanding that the ropes are all the same they just come in different ring gauge sizes so they will taste different because of the proportions of the outer leaf vs. the inner leaf. I think you might find some answers here
