***What Are You Smoking, November 2020?***

Well, my Rouxgaroux came in today, and now I'm enjoying my second bowl of this excellent blend in a James Upshall Tilshead straight billiard. This is really good stuff. Tons of Perique, which is balanced by a bed of excellent and very rich Virginias. It'll take some time to know for sure, but...

A Pipe & The Good Life

I agree! Three of the best nights of my life were spent sleeping in a hammock over Havasu Creek in the Grand Canyon. Not overlooking the creek, literally sleeping over the creek. Best sleep of my life, and to awake above the stunning blue waters of the Havasu under HUGE cottonwood trees was...

A Pipe & The Good Life

Living the good life in Madera canyon, AZ. I’m in a hammock, the wife is in a hammock, and KBV Sakura is in the pipe. One of the best afternoons of my fall.

Newby Questions About Breaking In A New Pipe

I generally "break in" new pipes by filling all the way to the top, and smoking slowly all the way to the bottom. Not much science to it. I don't use particularly aromatic blends, usually a straight VA or a Va/Per. I'm sure a Burley blend would work fine too. I don't recommend filling...

    Mmmmmmmmm

I believe this is the same as Cabbie's mixture, only not cut into slices/coins.

    Smoking with Your Eyes Closed...

While the visual aspect of smoking is somewhat appealing to me, the taste/flavor is most important. I've read that when you cut off one sensory intake, the other sensory intakes get more sensitive, so maybe I should try smoking with my eyes closed. It'll probably make the flavors more nuanced...

    Mmmmmmmmm

Only if you fix the capitalization. So, Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm would make the python happy. Also, those ropes look damn good!

What Cigar Are You Smoking, 2020?

I had a CAO America on the golf course yesterday with the guys. I thought it was a fitting smoke for election day, and even more fitting for the first half of the smoke when it had a slight plug and was difficult to smoke. Just like our country, my cigar had problems. Straightened out in the...

    Ken Byron Ventures

I agree with @BarrelProof and @dochowl, give it a little time. He's usually pretty quick with responding with such inquiries, but he also works a "regular" job and every time there's a new drop he's got a bunch of orders to ship out so he can have trouble getting to it right away. And I've...

    PTSD and Pipe Smoking

Welcome to the forums, and thank you for your service! There have not been very many studies that have specifically focused on pipe smokers exclusively, but as I recall, one from a while back showed that pipe smokers tend to live longer than non-smokers, something the study at least partially...

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

So I've heard! That's actually the plan. I've also got a 5 yr old package of rotten Fig Newtons I'll throw in the package as well. :ROFLMAO:

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

Nice little haul today: 8 oz of Rouxgaroux, 200 gr of Marlin Flake for the cellar, some KBV blends that only land 1-2 times/year, and a couple of Pease blends I’ve never tried. The Fillmore is dated 9/27/18. I love it when tins arrive pre-aged!

Basmatica Drop Right Now @ KBV

I recommend C and D Oriental Silk and Sunday Picnic, as well as Pease's Cairo and Embarcadero, all of which are regularly available year 'round.

    Show Us Your Smoke Rings

What's your technique? It seems like the only time I blow smoke rings is when I'm not even trying, and when I try, I can't get them to happen.

    Lovely Birdseye Grain

Beautiful piece of briar, Ken! Also, if I may say so, I have a Upshall Tilshead pipe that is one of my favorite VA pipes. Thank you for making it!

    Sips & Fits

TIL that smoking Burley can be a psychedelic experience. I think I need to smoke more Burley.

    Wrong Time, Wrong Place

Not if you live where we do, Tim! The best part of moving from Minnesota to Arizona was selling the damn lawnmower and getting rid of the snow shovel!

    Another Reformed Cigarette Puffer.

Welcome to the forums from sunny Tucson, AZ! And congrats on giving up the cigs. That IS a big deal! I hope you're finding your new tobacco experience with pipes to be one of enjoyment, not bodily compulsion.
