Ha... nice! I will have to get a pic. I’ve made them from the bowl too on occasion, which is pretty cool.

What's your technique? It seems like the only time I blow smoke rings is when I'm not even trying, and when I try, I can't get them to happen.

Yehhh, years of trying, and a whole pipe club meetings devoted to them, I just don't think I have the mouth or something to blow rings. I also can't whistle through my fingers, fart with my armpit, cross my eyes, or touch my tongue to my nose. But, I keep trying. I feel so left out

Take a deep puff, shape your lips like a circle, and gently cough from the throat... best way that I can describe it. I’m sure that other techniques will vary, but it works from me...

I can only do it with cigars. Actually, I don’t even think I’ve tried to make smoke rings from my pipe smoking.

I don't think I use my lungs or diaphragm at all. I swiftly contract my jaw about half an inch, and simultaneously arch the back of the tongue upwards and forwards.

I agree. I was just messing around now and it’s more like a fish blowing bubbles. Never really thought about it until this thread...

Isn't that the problem with a lot of your skills. You get to a point where you don't think about it and have to concentrate to observe how you are. I don't know how I pack a pipe.

I can manage the odd ring or two, managing to catch one on film while not looking like a 20-something girl on Instagram is another story. My lips just naturally do the duck face thing, I can't help it and my facial hair isn't epic enough to hide much. I console myself with my chiseled jaw and try to avoid compromising pictures. Not saying anyone here has posted any compromising pictures but that one forum member does look an awful lot like Eddy Van Halen...

? I am an industrial radiographer. I develop x-rays in a darkroom on the back of a truck. The x-rays are of welds. The welds are on pipes and/or vessels. The pipes and vessels are mostly for the oil, gas, polymer, and mining industries.

If I tell you more, you will need a safeword.
