If You Could Only Have 7 Tobaccos.. Which Ones Are They?

I think if I had to limit it to seven, I'd try to cover the main types. In no particular order: Captain Black Match Revelation Cult Blood Red Moon John Bull SPC Plum Pudding Sir Walter Raleigh Orlik Golden Sliced I'd want more, but these would cover in a pinch.

Independence Day or Fourth of July?

Just curious, is there celebration in Britain over Brexit? Do you think it will be a holiday of sorts?

Independence Day or Fourth of July?

I saw that on the news today. Glad you all got to celebrate a little freedom too.

Independence Day or Fourth of July?

I notice most Americans, nearly all, refer to today's holiday as the fourth of July. I often do too. When I can catch myself I try to refer to it as Independence Day, to better capture the spirit of the day. Do you have any thoughts or opinions on which term is better, or which you prefer?

Recommendations for Blending with Smoker's Pride

Last year I bought a pound of Smoker's Pride Rich Taste on sale. It is a Virginia and Burley blend and I don't believe it has any flavoring added. I've had it jarred for a year; it's not bad but I've got enough other blends I like better. I thought about maybe adding to it to make an American...

California’s Senate Bill 793 Takes Aim at Flavored Tobacco Products

Sounds like it time to cellar deep on your favorite aromatics if you live in California. Probably a good idea for the rest of us too. "Senate Bill 793 would prohibit a tobacco retailer and his or her employees from selling, offering for sale, or pressing with the intent to sell or offer for...

Why Prof. Einstein Smoked Pipe This Way?

The tiniest visible gap between the stem and shank bothers me. If you were a perfectionist you might choose to pull the stem partially out to exaggerate the gap so it is now part of the design, and not an imperfection. Just a random thought.

Which of the Match Blends Do You Like?

I'm intrigued by the thought of trying recreations of discontinued tobaccos. For me it's kind of a way to connect to the past, to time travel the way one does in looking at old magazine ads. I've tried several of the Match blends. Most are alright, but not something I'll reorder. However, I...

    Orlik Golden Sliced--Is There a Ready-Rubbed Version?

I heard someone say there was a ready-rubbed version of Orlik's Golden Sliced. I see on Tobacco Reviews that there is a Golden Mixture, but it doesn't sound very close. Per TobaccoReviews.com: Golden Sliced: Virginia/Perique Golden Mixture: Black Cavendish, Burley, Virginia So is there a...

    Warning: Your Tastes May Change

I smoked aromatics for a long time, when I did smoke a pipe. I actually quit for awhile, but took up the pipe again a couple of years ago. Tobacco is a different world than when I first started smoking a pipe over 20 years ago. Major brands have disappeared, some places tax pipe tobacco at...

You could call it Dark Side of the Moon.

Hearth & Home Cerberus: A Very Brief Review

I was recently looking at the H & H line; I have not had any yet. This is one of the blends that stood out for me. Thanks for your post--I'll be adding it to a future order.

I made up a batch following your recipe and it's really good. Do you have a name for it?

    Fountain Pens

I like fountain pens and have a few. I am bad about losing pens I carry, so I carry Pilot disposable fountain pens. They are less than $2 each and are good quality and consistent.

    Movies with Pipe Smoking Characters

Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948) is well worth watching. Starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Melvyn Douglas, it has lots of pipe smoking in it. It is set in contemporary time, so they aren't trying to be historical. There's a running gag through the movie where Melvyn Douglas keeps...

    US Postal Service Is Horrible

I feel your frustration. Most of the time USPS is okay but sometimes they mess up. One package made it almost to my hometown, then was sent about 500 miles away. Currently waiting on a P&C order that spent a week sitting in Kansas City and now is taking days to travel 50 miles from a...

    Best Budget English

Super Value English Mixture comes in a pouch but is priced about the same as bulk. John Bull is a good "American" English.

So It Has Come To This.....

That looks more like it was intended for weed than tobacco, but synthetic pipes aren't new. There was Brylon over 50 years ago. In the 1960s-'70s there was a brand called "The Pipe" made of synthetic material. And I forget the brand, but I think there was a British pipe made of bakelite, but...

    Massachusetts and Flavored Tobacco

Awhile back I saw some recommendations for blends from Watch City Cigar. A couple of them were not available at the time, and the flavored tobacco ban was near, so I never ordered. Out of curiosity I checked their website today and found this under the notice for Massachusetts residents: "All...

I Prefer to Smoke Hot and Fast Is There a Tobacco for Me?

I would think burley or American English blends. For burley, something like Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh, Prince Albert, or Lane BLWB. John Bull is an American English that is burley-forward. Super Value's English Mixture might be worth trying too. Virginias seem to be the worst about...
