    Meerschaum or Morta?

Welcome! You have high criteria, friend. Depending on where you live and what you are smoking, moisture is part of the deal. A well seasoned briar, and many tobaccos, will smoke dry and clean. However, if you are going for flavor of tobacco, a Meer is your best bet. Imparts no flavor...

    A Look Back/Recent Years

I look at cinema as the literature of modern times. I know of most of the actors on that list, and mourned the passing of most. Rod Taylor, who did "The Time Machine" and Hitchcock's ""The Birds", was a favorite. I saw Robin Williams in New Orleans on his last tour. A tormented talent that...

I bought this Ben Wade in the mid eighties for $45.00. Last time I smoked it was on my 50th birthday. It is a huge, heavy pipe.

    Pipe And Tobacco Shops

Here in Covington, Louisiana, there is Jewels Tobacconist downtown. 90 minutes east in Biloxi is the Epitome, 30 minutes South is Mayan Imports, which has a large selection of pipes and tobaccos. Mayan Imports also has shops in New Orleans, in the Vieux Carre and on Magazine in the garden...

    Any good English pipes?

I had an epiphany while watching "Fiddler on the Roof". Motel had just purchased a new sewing machine, and was thrilled that now, all of his clothes would be perfectly stitched, no more hand made articles! That was a source of pride for him. Well, Dunhill once extolled one of the virtues of...

    "Opening Up" a Pipe's Airway

Part of the break in process is seasoning the pipe, airway included. Could be that the seasoning of the airway was removed when the pipe was opened up, because the seasoned materials were removed? Smoke it for awhile, only using a dry pipe cleaner to wipe out the shank, and see if it improves...

What tobacco(s) would you use for the pipe shapes I have pictured here?

I would use the IL Duca for a complex English, or GLPease Sixpence. A straight Virginia in the Cavicchi. The Red Dragon would go well with Fava Beans and a nice Chianti.

Smoking the same briar with a 9mm multiple times a day

Bah, Humbug! 9mm filters are great! For me, certain tobaccos shine in my 9mm pipes, and taste like ash without them. If you wipe out the bowl with a paper towel, and also the stem, your pipe should be ready to smoke again in about an hour or so. The 8 hour thing is mostly to avoid cracking...
