Hi,
After some research I've read that you should not smoke your pipe more than once every 8 hours. Then I've read some people don't care.

From my experience it looks like if the bowl has humidity in the bottom it won't be the best smoke.
One of my favorites pipes has a 9mm filter and I'm really tempted to smoke it more than once per day.
Would you have some recommendations ? I essentially wouldn't like to damage my pipe nor to get an excuse to buy more pipes :)
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Throw out the filter, run a pipe cleaner through it after every smoke, and wipe the bowl out with a paper towel. I do this for a few days in a row, and smoke three to four bowls a day.

Wait until the pipe has cooled down before removing the filter unless you have an army mount pipe (conical friction fit).

I personnaly don't reuse or dry my filters. First of all they don't look yummy when al wet and covered in goop and they don't improve the taste, or dry the smoke like they initially do. And their cost is not that high either.

Funny thing is that I also have some unfiltered pipes and they take the multiple smokes / day beating better. Maybe because the gap for the filter generates more moisture, collecta more mess, ...

Insert story here about old timers smoking their pipes all day long when pipes were tools and not collectibles and an extension of our personalities :)

If there's moisture in the bottom of the bowl after a smoke, smoke slower, but importantly, dry down the stuff before you load. A tiny bit of condensate on the bottom is all right, but more than that.....

I can't speak for frequency issues, as to how much or when with pipe smoking. I can say that I am a deeply confirmed 9mm filter guy. I really enjoy what they do for the smoke for me. My best results come with using a fresh filter for each smoke. I very much like "clean" and "fresh". One filter can serve for 2 or 3 bowls in a row however with no suffering on its account. Depending on the tobacco, I might be rocking on the floor of the shower, but the filter is happy. I've bought bulk "Blitz" filters and have used them by the ton... the expense is minimal and well worth it to me. Recently I started using Dr. Perl 9mm filters by Vauen and find that they're even better. Just my 2 cents. (As I wonder if the FDA is going to claim filters as "constituent parts" of pipe paraphernalia requiring draconian regulation. That's another rant.)

Bah, Humbug! 9mm filters are great! For me, certain tobaccos shine in my 9mm pipes, and taste like ash without them. If you wipe out the bowl with a paper towel, and also the stem, your pipe should be ready to smoke again in about an hour or so. The 8 hour thing is mostly to avoid cracking the bowls from the hot/cold back and forth being potentially harmful to the briar, because it may crack from overuse. In practice, however, I have never cracked a bowl. I have 4 9mm pipes, and smoke them more than any of my others.

I do think Big Ben filters are best, but Castleford and Dr. Perl are ok. The balsa filters work well for me with drier tobaccos, but the Balsa 9mm filters are really restrictive, IMHO. I tried Stanwell 9mm filters once, but they were really restrictive too. Try to keep your unused filter in a dry place, like a ziplock bag, once you open the box, so that they don't absorb moisture from the air. I prefer the balsa 6mm filter pipes if I want to use balsa, which is good for my VaPer blends.

My Rattray's 160 bent billiard is a 9mm; I also have a Peterson 150 bulldog, Peterson 999 bent bulldog, and a Fe.Ro straight grain Dublin so equipped. I don't smoke filtered pipes all the time, but when I do, it is with a Straight Virginia.

The other, more expensive option, of course, is to have two pipes.
