    SAT Question

    Amazing! Thank you so much!!

Haunted Bookshop - New Tin Art?

I saw it too and was hoping it was a new one rather than an old one. It's not as creepy and "haunted" looking, I'd agree, but it's more legible if you wanted to use it to label a jar.

    SAT Question

Hm. Thanks for the suggestion, but it seems little more than random; I get Bengal Slices, Latakia Flake, Double Pressed Burley, etc. it my first page of search results.

    SAT Question

Thanks for the suggestions! Any more cased/topped Virginias with checking out? I’m eager to get into Virginias more this summer and hopeful these will prove a helpful introduction.

    SAT Question

Carter Hall is to Burley as _______ is to Virginia. I like some sweetness in my blends, OTC burleys and the like. Edward G. Robinson is an aro, but a lot of tobacco flavor still, Bald Headed Teacher as well. I know Virginias have their own natural sweetness, but what would you recommend as a...

    TobaccoReviews - Contents Question

Ok, the answer has to be No, they do not list them in any particular order. Looking at the review for Old Gowrie, they list the contents as "Kentucky, Perique, Virginia." Certainly there is not more perique than Virginia in Old Gowrie. Bummer.

    TobaccoReviews - Contents Question

I didn't know where else to post this question, so "Tobacco Discussion" seemed as good a place as any. On TobaccoReviews.com do you suppose they list the components in the order of Most ---> Least? I read them that way, like a food label. Whenever you pick up a food item and read the...

    How do YOU say "latakia"?

Why am I having flashbacks to high school Peert/Purt debates? My brother-in-law (of sorts) is Syrian, his parents are still there, and he says LahTAKia...I still say LadaKEYuh, but I'm a Midwesterner who feels like I'm caught between being a wrong dufus or a persnickety snob.

    Assigned Tobacco

I was thinking more about smoking mechanics (loading/packing, tamping, cadence) as opposed to finding blends that one might prefer. Consequently I thought a ribbon cut would be best for a newbie. Thanks for the replies!

    Assigned Tobacco

If you were to assign a Blend to a newbie with which to learn the craft of pipe smoking, what blend would you choose? Knowing this group well enough at this point I’ll add the caveat that you like this person and actually want to help them succeed. Lol. So your sending him/her off with a...

    Thanks! All straight?

    Too Hot & Goes Out

If I can hijack my own thread for a moment, just out of curiosity, what shape pipe are you clenching all day Cosmic?
  13. JohnMosesBrowning

    Too Hot & Goes Out

I'm going with "smoking too fast" as well. I don't let it go out or leave it too long...when I have this particular issue (which isn't very often, but it does come up from time to time) it happens when I'm smoking right along. I'll feel the bowl getting really hot and then...nothing...out. I...

    Too Hot & Goes Out

Agreed. I’ve gotten too many pipes and too many blends. Combine that with too few (overly eager) smoking opportunities and my trouble shooting becomes too scattershot. I need to pick one or two pipes and one or two blends and commit for a month of going back to basics.

    Too Hot & Goes Out

At that moment it was a bowl of MB Navy Flake. I had partial flakes already rubbed out in the jar that’d been in there for months probably. Smoking too fast is definitely possible. Is that what Cosmic means by “operator error” or is it the packing? Everyone argues for loose packing so I do...

    Too Hot & Goes Out

What’s the leading culprit when tobacco is sufficiently dried yet the bowl both burns too hot and continues to go out?

    Mason Jar Labels

Haha, that was supposed to say: p u f f y But apparently I'm an idiot and don't know what magic words inside of scare quotes will turn into a cartoon, so there you go. 3M brand two-sided tape that is kind of spongy.

    Mason Jar Labels

For the jar labels that I print and put on the side of the jar I use the yellow Scotch brand double-sided tape. If I cut out a circular label for the top of the jar, I use the 3M "puffy" two sided stuff.

    Cake… Is it worth it?

I don't know if he ever stuck with it, but some folks are familiar with a certain popular YouTuber (if you know, you know, but I don't want this to turn into a love'm/hate'm thread) who picked out a 16 blend rotation and bought 16 identical pipes which he then dedicated to each of his 16 blends...
