    "Hybrid" Recommendations

Thanks for all the great recommendations, it'll be a fun problem to sort out where to start!

    Tolkien Pipe I.D.

On that note, just doing a Google image search for "Tolkien Pipe" returns all kinds of great pictures of him I'd aspire to.

    Tolkien Pipe I.D.

Thanks for the input! I see what you mean about the bowl appearing more cylindrical. I suppose I'd only seen Dublin's with that thickness at the rim and just assumed. (Hence the inquiry). How about this one? Does that stem seem flattened, or is it another illusion?

    Tolkien Pipe I.D.

Is this a Dublin pipe shape in this particular picture? It's a famous picture of him with his pipe, but I know others where it seems more of a billiard shape. This looks to me like a Dublin with that thick rim. Thoughts?

What Am I Looking For In Burley Tobacco?

I'm still a newbie but I have found I like Chatham Manor, Mac Baren Navy Flake, and C&D's Redburn. Now, I know none of those are pure burleys, they all have a topping of one type or another. I'm still trying to get my head around Haunted Bookshop.

    "Hybrid" Recommendations

Known by various names, Hybrids, cross-overs, sweet Englishes, whatever you call them or know them as - I love them. Don't get me wrong, I love my heavy Englishes/Balkans too (Gaslight, Plum Pudding, Father Dempsey, etc.). But I do have a pretty good sweet tooth and I find these "hybrid"...

2 Questions: Smoking Cadence & Sipping

Sablebush52 - It's about keeping the tobacco simmering just barely at the edge of going out, so that I can get the most flavor from it. I just vary it a bit around keeping the tobacco simmering.

    How To Prevent Rim Charring?

While keeping with the "just doesn't sound right" - the biggest reason I bring it up is that I really like a nice looking rim (Savinelli Roma, or better yet Neil Monier @ GarageMadePipeTool as examples) and I hate to spend money on one until I get better smoking habits.

    How To Prevent Rim Charring?

I found this in another thread posted by Cosmic: I'll give it a try!

    How To Prevent Rim Charring?

Any advice on how to remove black gunk from the rim to determine if it's just cosmetic or if I've actually charred them?

    How To Prevent Rim Charring?

Ok, so for sure I'm over packing/filling the bowl and for sure I'm stuffing the flame down too close still. I'll try the saliva trick along with these tips and see if I can't improve. Many thanks for all the advice!

    How To Prevent Rim Charring?

Indeed. It's odd how the slightest breeze seems to always take the flame right toward me and darkens the on the stummel/six o'clock side of the bowl.

    How To Prevent Rim Charring?

My great-uncle Paul used to say, whenever he'd have Thai food he'd eat ice cream afterwards, and then the next day he'd say, "C'mon ice cream!!"

    How To Prevent Rim Charring?

I love my pipes and I hate that I char the rims. No matter how careful I am, lighter or matches, the draft, breeze, or wind always seems to push the flame and chars the edge of the rim nearest me. All help, tips, pointers, advice, and commiserations are welcome and appreciated.

Have all of you (or almost all) started on cheap aros?

I started with some bulk aro's from my local B&M and didn't get much out of it other than heat. After I poked around on here and YouTube I ordered things like Nightcap, MM965, EMP, Plum Pudding, etc. and immediately fell in love with latakia. I've discovered some others I like as well of...

    Sutliff Match Early Morning Pipe

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I think Daybreak from Hearth & Home is as good as, if not better than, EMP and I like it much better than the Sutliff match EMP.

Hey Weedsnager, have I seen you post them on Instagram? They are pretty slick!
