    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

I have a shelf full of worst tobaccos in various genres. I keep them, in small mason jars, because I have been told here that my tastes will probably change in the future. Every now and then I will try one to see if this change has occurred yet. So far they serve as valuable negative points of...

    I Finally Get Burleys!

I recommend trying c&d burleys straight. Their dark burley is excellent on its own, or blended with a bit of white. They require patience to get to know them but I find it’s well worth the effort. They usually benefit from a few months in a jar

    Going to Vietnam, Suggestions?

Me too. I've been wanting to try that version of rustica.

Pipe Tobacco Recommendations for Camel Non-filter Smoker

I would try c&d Izmir Turkish. Ramback is similar, but it may have changed since the sale of d&r. Try it straight , and if that’s too oriental for you, try blending with a base tobacco. I like it blended with c&d white burley with a pinch of their dark burley . I can’t see getting a camel like...

Hey, Anyone Heard of C&Ds "Mad Fiddler"

It's the Kasturi in this blend that interests me most. I wish C&D sold kasturi as a straight blender. Maybe a whole leaf order one day....

Increasing Number of Possible AI Bots?

I suspect that at least some of these lurkers you're talking about are real human beings who happen to have a first language that is not English. If they are using a translating program to write the post, this would explain the "off" feeling of the writing. If this is true, I sympathize. These...

    Toning down Aromatic Blend

I used to mix five brothers with more highly flavored blends. When it worked—it often did—it seemed to give the flavors more “breathing room”—opened them up

    Smoking, Grilling, and BBQ

I grew up in South Georgia . Bbq was taken very seriously there—so much so that I don’t even try to do it myself, though I’m fairly serious about cooking. I mean, I will try Julia Childs or James beards methods for perfect roast chicken (fairly difficult) but smoked ribs? Never! If get in the...

Medical Doctors who Smoke a Pipe?

Thanks! I don’t know if I’ll ever do an iron butt, but I may pm you sometime if you’re willing to give general long distance riding tips. I find riding in the high heat/humidity we have down here in Florida the most challenging

Medical Doctors who Smoke a Pipe?

You do iron butt rides without a helmet? The sun/wind exposure alone would do me in. I do pretty regular 500 + mile days, and sometimes consider doing 1000 miles in 24 hours thing, just do it.

Hope you are as intrigued by it as I am.

    Palate Refinement

Buy samples of basic blending tobaccos—a dark burley, a white burley, a red Virginia, some Izmir, dark fired, etc— and try smoking them straight. This, for me, was the first step to understanding what’s really going on in any blend. Then play around with making your own blends, see how the...

    And Your Favourite Cheese Is?

Back in the 90s, we used to buy “queso gallego” in Galicia, where my wife is from. It was made by village ladies, sold in the open air market, and I believe it’s illegal now. It’s definitely one of the best cheeses I’ve ever had.

    Gurgles . . . . .

I have found that a wet smoker will eventually become a dry smoker if I smoke it enough

    What are You Reading Now?

A book about flannery O’Conner, walker percy, Thomas Merton, and Dorothy Day. Highly recommended for those interested in these writers
