I am reading Colette Clarks "A Sparkling Case of Murder". Fairly good book about a female "Hollywood Fixer" named Lisette Darling solving a murder set on a movie studios party in late 1934. There are eventually four murders to solve. Okay read.

New Stephen Hunter, three Swagger novellas. First one is pretty good, set in the late 1930's.



This one was reviewed well, but written in a odd style, I bailed out.

I've only ever read Leviathan, but really enjoyed it. I'll have to pick up a copy of the New York Trilogy. A real loss.

New York Trilogy is definitely worth the read.

Now I am reading the latest book by Magda Alexander "Murder at a Funeral". It's the ninth book in a series featuring Kitty Worthington. With her wedding day to CDI Robert Crawford Sinclair mere weeks away, Kitty Worthington is thrilled beyond words. But first there’s a sad duty that must be performed—the reinterment of Robert’s birth mother at Castle Rutledge who is to be buried alongside her husband, the former marquis. And then the murders start happening and Kitty must investigate. These mysteries are usually set in the 1920's.

These are usually a pleasant read with little violence in them.

Michigan - A History by Bruce Catton. Mr. Catton (1899 - 1978), a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winner, was (in my estimation) a brilliant journalist and historian (he was the founding editor of American Heritage magazine). He is perhaps best known for his Civil War trilogy: Mr. Lincoln's Army, Glory Road, and A Stillness at Appomattox.

A native of Michigan (born in Petosky and raised in Benzonia), he was an ideal choice to write this delightfully engaging book which was part of The States and the Nation series of histories of each of our 50 states. I recommend it highly.
