I last read McCarthy when I was a teenager at university (The Road and No Country for Old Men). I'm intrigued to see what I make of him now.

Finally finish Churchill's Marlborough! A great read with lots of info regarding the Tories and their predominant control and growth of the African slave trade I never knew. Lots fascinating stuff covering late 1600s and early 1700s England/Great Britain. Much, much more that Marlborough's record in the wars. A heavy but, very informative four volumes. A great read for those with an interest in the history of the time period or simply the History of the Churchill family. Absolutely fascinating! Brutal politics, showing no real behavioral change over the centuries in how politics play out. Well, unfortunately dueling is no longer legal.

So far, I'm really enjoying this retelling of Huckleberry Finn from Jim's perspective. It gives a whole new perspective on the tale with a lot of dark humor. Check it out...
I'm really curious to read this. Have read some great reviews and heard an interesting interview with him.
The writer has an interesting play on how Mark Twain depicted Jim's dialog, and how slaves would speak in "expected" talk to white people, and then they had way better grammar amongst themselves. The reason for this was white people expected the slaves to be beneath them in education and knowledge. It's an interesting perspective.
I think it could so easily (sadly) have become a 'culture wars' thing. I'm really impressed with the way he talks about it, not criticising Twain for how Jim is written in the original novel.

Fiction break is over. Now reading Buckley's Nearer My God. So far, even for a non-Catholic, a fascinating read.
I am in a "re-read" mode. I recently re-read three Stephen King novels; The Shining and Doctor Sleep (quasi-sequel) back to back, and finished off The Stand this morning. Spurred on by the movie Dune: Part Two, I am starting the first book which I read in the early 1980s as a tween.
I am reading the very charming "An Assassination on the Agenda" which is the latest from T.E. Kinsey that involves Lady Hardcastle and her companion in 1925's England.

City of mirrors by Justin cronins, last book of the trilogy, hoping it's as good as the first two, they read like king before he became an idiot.
Listened to the first two "Dungeon Crawler Carl" books I'm waiting till I get another audible credit before I start book 3 but it's a fun series so far.
