Who Buys Brylon? How Bad Is It?

I think some of the people here who are down on The Pipe are confusing correlation with cause and effect. If the very first pipe you smoked was The Pipe, and it smoked hot, maybe it wasn't the pipe's fault? If my first pipe had been an S. Bang, I could live out my days convinced that S. Bangs...

    Combining Cigars With Pipes

Does anyone here recommend putting a cut-up cigar in a pipe bowl (without disassembling the cigar) as a decent way to help new pipe smokers learn to smoke a pipe? A friend who is a cigar smoker tells me that he's interested in pipes but can't get the packing right. I'm figuring smoking a cigar...

    Burns At The Center Only

In my early days, I found that when I drew too hard on the pipe, the cherry burned down the centre of the tobacco like a drill. Try more gentle sips.

    First World Problem

So, I was going through my modest tin collection, checking for leaky or rusty tins. I came across a tin of Tudor Castle by McClelland that wasn't quite right. It seemed to rattle a little too much when I gave it a little shake. The plastic lid was bulging a bit. The tin is dated 2015. I took...

    Double Fisting

I used to do this all the time when I first started out. I think it's a great way to do A/B comparisons of different tobaccos and learn the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) differences.

What The Hell Is A Meme?

But Darwin went on to say: "...but if we were intentionally to neglect the weak and helpless, it could only be for a contingent benefit, with an overwhelming present evil. Hence we must bear without complaining the undoubtedly bad effects of the weak surviving and propagating their kind"...

    Piping Pet Peeves

If anyone wants to push my buttons, just spell "cake" with the letter "k", as if that makes it really kool. Or maybe you are in the Klan, or a big Mortal Kombat fan.

Casing and Top Flavour. What's the Difference?

I have the same recollection. This is why I don't understand threads where people ask for the "sweetest natural blend", as if there are two kinds of tobacco: "natural" tobaccos, with varying levels of inherent sweetness, and then those that have sugar added (unnaturally).

How Important Is The Stem For You?

I don't clench, so it doesn't much matter to me what the material is, with regards to comfort. Acrylic is easier to keep looking nice, in my experience.
