    Gremlins

For me the definitive pipe smoking movies were the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series. Intrigued me as a kid and I couldn't wait to be old enough to smoke a pipe myself.

What Pipe would You Like to have Back? Why?

My first pipe was an estate 1948 Dunhill Quaint that I bought in the 60s with money saved from my paper route. Paid around $40 which was a lot of money for me back then. After I got married my mom cleaned out my room and I'm guessing the pipe was discarded. Would like it back as it held a lot...

I Finally Broke Down And Bought A Meerschaum Pipe

Nice pipe for sure, I've been thinking about buy a meerschaum also just to see the difference. I may miss the taste that the briar lends to the smoke. Hope you enjoy it!

Cedar and Glass Case for Pipes: Photos

That is really a beautiful cabinet and congrats on a great collection! Just returned to smoking a pipe, so mine are in a box awaiting what's next. Your cabinet has given me some ideas. Thanks

    Opening A New Tin

I like my tobacco dry, bone dry as it rehydrates when you start to smoke anyway. So first I lay the tin out to dry and then replace it and smoke it up within a week or so. As I smoke it up fairly quickly I've never noticed a change in the taste of the tobacco. Tobacco that I've had cellared in...

    Legendary Tobaccos Availability?

I smoked the original Balkan Sobranie back in the 60s and I'm sure if I was to find a tin today it would be over the hill and a mere ghost of it's past. While Virginias can greatly benefit from age, some blends can also fade away, particularly Latakia blends. If I'm missing the old Sobranie...

When You Get a New Pipe?

Staying away from anything that might ghost a new pipe such as aromatics or a heavy latakia blend, I smoke numerous different baccys and make a note of what I like best. If nothing lights me up then I try the aromatics and latakia bombs that I enjoy. The list dictates what category I put the...

    Open chat for the site?

Personally speaking, pipe smoking removes me from the modern age of cell phones, computers, the internet etc and brings me back to remembering the days where life was a little more simple and uncomplicated...,at least for me lol. I participate in this forum as an exception because of all the...

Some Ghosts are not so Friendly!

Long time ago I got ghosted by mix 79. The pipe was incurable. After that I designated a single pipe for the tobaccos that can raise the dead like Mix 79,Ennerdale, Grousemoore etc. The ghosts seem to get along with each other and I rarely smoke this type of baccy anyway. Those types of...

    Chronology of Dunhill Tobacco

Thanks for all the info and links. Much appreciated!

    Frequent Tamping is Key

I tamp quite a bit to maintain the amount of draw I prefer. Especially at the start of the smoke when the tobacco still rises a bit in the bowl

    Chronology of Dunhill Tobacco

My apologies if this has been covered before, but I would like to understand the year chronology as to who produced the Dunhill blends and when. Much appreciated. Thanks

    Perique

    G. L. Pease once stated that smoking straight Perique is like having a frontal lobotomy. As my brain doesn't work well to begin with, I've stayed away from that experiment.

    Tobacco at Night???

I mainly smoke in the evenings. The only problem I ever confront is wind. This is one I've never heard of for sure

    What A Treat

Great story, thanks. My Dad left me the pipe I always remembered him smoking. I wanted to put it to rest with him, but my Mom said she wanted me to smoke it and remember him when I do. Almost 20 years and I still can't do it, but it is on display in my smoking room

New Pipe Days are the Best: J. Alan Squashed Apple and Nate King Tomato.

I solved that problem by getting a divorce LOL. Nothing like the expectation of a new pipe in the mail, or an estate piece for that matter. I'm currently waiting on a used Sven Knudsen and can't wait to have a wifeless smoke with it. Now I have more pipes than my wife had shoes!!

    Bad Taste In The Morning

In addition to brushing my teeth and using mouth wash, I always use a tongue scraper which is available at any pharmacy. If your tongue is heavily coated it absorbs the tobacco smoke and flavor big time. Then you sleep with it and wake up with Genghis Khan breath. Also reduces the bacteria and...

    How to Re-Hydrate Pipe Tobacco

A cup full of damp paper towels in the middle of a suitable Tupperware sealable container. Surround the cup with the dry tobacco, cover and burp out the air, then check every day. Usually 2 to 3 days does the trick
