What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

I’ve had an on and off relationship with cigs since about 16. I’ll smoke for a several months, quit for a year or two, rinse and repeat. There are always feels of guilt associated with smoking because I can feel it wrecking my lungs, but the desire to smoke something is almost always there. So...

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

I forget ODF is a burley! I just got a pound of that in today after sampling some a friend had and enjoying it so. Solani Aged Burley Flake seems in short supply? Maybe I haven’t looked in the right places. Thanks for the recommendations!

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

However you want to look at it I’m glad to hear the experience for you has stayed enjoyable once the newness wore off! I hope my experience is similar, I’ve always had an enjoyment of smoking, just glad it’s no longer cigarettes.

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

I’m finding myself reaching for burley more and more often, it will definitely become a staple for me. I haven’t tried many, but MB Burley Flake I’ve really enjoyed. Found C&D OJK very strong and in-your-face at first but am growing to quite like it, almost as if my mouth is adjusting to the...

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

That makes sense. The newness of it all is still very exciting for me and certainly frames my experience right now. I know it won’t last forever so I’m letting myself revel in it. Really enjoying just looking through the pipes and tobacco I’ve picked up so far, the tins I haven’t yet opened to...

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

Can you tolerate burley heavy blends in the dry heat? I’ve found those tend to be a dry smoke for me. I’ve definitely started to pick up on the charred taste when I get impatient with my relights, haven’t zeroed in on whether a certain blend has it worse than others, but it seems to be...

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

Just a bunch of simple folks smoking pipes. I can appreciate that.

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

I’ve been experimenting with levels of dryness, from crispy to sticking together when pinched. The crispy is mostly from what a pipe-smoking friend passed to me to try. Despite the moisture level, a couple of my briars I’ve not had a good smoke from top to bottom, good bit of wet dottle in the...

What Smoking Minutiae have You Picked Up On?

I’m very new to the activity, so my example might be pretty simple. Based on the character of the smoke I push out of my mouth I can tell if there is more water vapor than there should be, so I’ve probably been smoking too fast/hot and need to slow down. The smoke is kinda wispy and dissipates...

Is there an Expected Level of Cosmetic Flaw in a New Pipe?

That really puts things in perspective!

Is there an Expected Level of Cosmetic Flaw in a New Pipe?

It’s a Savinelli Impero 321. I’ve got a 320 and love it, wanted something smaller for a quicker smoke.

Is there an Expected Level of Cosmetic Flaw in a New Pipe?

I appreciate the thoughtful reply. Honestly I’m relieved because I’ve had my eye on this pipe for a while and was quite excited to get it!

Is there an Expected Level of Cosmetic Flaw in a New Pipe?

I recently received a new $132 pipe. On inspection I noticed some small, dark, needle point sized, shallow pock marks as well as other small indentations and marks. Some of the spots look like dents, others look like part of the wood under the finish. Ultimately it’s up to me what is tolerable...

Purchased this lightly used Kaywoodie Saxon

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I got a decent deal hand crafted by the artisan himself. And thanks for welcoming me to the forums the other day.

Purchased this lightly used Kaywoodie Saxon

Found it at an estate sale for $12, was in the market for a beat around pipe and this was in great condition compared to many other used pipes I’ve seen. Can’t find much information about this pipe, and can’t find this exact make anywhere with this style of stem. Anyone got any insight?

How Concerned should Americans be about the Proposed Tax Hike?

Why is alcohol not under the same scrutiny as tobacco? You’d think that with how harmful and damaging that drug is that it would have ridiculous legislation in the works as well.

How Concerned should Americans be about the Proposed Tax Hike?

A month in and I’ve already got 23 tins/mason jars cellared away based on my favorite blends so far. Why can’t they just let folks do what makes them happy, who are we hurting? Insurance companies, I suppose…

How Concerned should Americans be about the Proposed Tax Hike?

Please capitalize important words in title. Being a newcomer to the pastime I can’t help but feel anxious and a developing sense of urgency regarding access and expense. Anyone with experience or historical knowledge have any insight?
