Is there an Expected Level of Cosmetic Flaw in a New Pipe?

I only have four pipes that don't have any pits. The two meers, the cob, and my Lumberman which has rustication in a few places (one way to fix pits .) Now every single one of those pits only stands out to a person like us who really will spend some time really enjoying the details of a pipe.

About 6 or 7 years ago I paid 80 dollars for this Rossi. The dark shellac finish started to bubble off in about 4 bowls, so I took acetone to the whole thing to make it natural.

This is what I got.

At the time it was really expensive for me as a pipe. I was a newer smoker without much money, so it was a big deal. Knowing now, that I got what I paid for. Still love it though.
