Public Service Announcement re: Samuel Gawith tins

I noticed this issue 2 years ago when I ordered a dozen FVF and Squadron. 80% with a broken seal. It's really sad finding your expensive product (I'm in Canada) bone dry and in an artless tin.

    Opening an Aged Tin

I often do a side by side comparison of a fresh tin of something and an aged jar of a couple years. Personally I always prefer the fresh, whether virginia or oriental. Perhaps lat blends do improve though.

    Don’t You Hate It When…

Relights are perfectly fine for me, but the char lights, if I'm not careful, can really be a nasty. It's usually when I'm too eager to get lit for the lovely tobacco taste :D

    Hello from Montreal

No clue, I was never much for Stogies, I prefer smoking alone in nature haha!

Bad News for Canadians: Feds To Impose 350% Import Tax on Tobacco

Shouldn't be too long before the joke is a reality in Canada and many other places. I hope everyone is preparing their cellar as things slowly get worse.

    FVF - Too Much Age?

So far I've only ever been disappointed with aged tobacco, but mostly from a jar than a sealed tin. They lose their character and nuance I find. Just becomes bland!

    Hello from Montreal

Welcome from Montreal too! Feel free to PM me if you want to meet in person and take some stock off my hands, I will shortly be getting rid of most of my cellar for financial reasons. Anyway welcome again!

Do this scientifically and record each subsequent bowl rating and share!

Ahh finally got flake tobacco right!

I like to lightly roll my flakes into a ball which breaks it apart a bit, and makes it a spongey little bundle which is much easier to pack. Fold, roll, gently pack. Flake is the hardest to pack because it's the easiest to over-tighten.

    Game changer smoke

I struggled for a long time with this. Sometimes I would get a great smoke and the next time it would be just awful. I think it is mostly a question of how tightly the tobacco is packed and how you are lighting and puffing. Moisture is important mostly in flakes, where it can be waaaay too...

    Nic hit

Could also be if you had an empty stomach, tired, etc. Also depends on the blend and your smoking speed.

    Regular Rotation?

I just have never found anything like Skiff Mixture. It almost seems like Skiff mixture is one thing, and all other pipe tobacco is another. I don't understand why it's so unique to my mouth.

Most Delicious Smoke With A Nasty Tin Smell?

Thanks for the suggestion. I received a tin of Haddo's Delight as well as Sixpence. Interestingly, I LOVED the tin note of HD but found the room note to be the stinker. Tastes great. As for Sixpence, now that is a tin note of fermented fish!!! Tastes good albeit a tiny bit strong. You tried it?

    Similar Blends To Bagpiper's Dream?

Hi! After my first bowl of Rattray's BD it became and instant favorite. Anything similar to this?

What’s The Deal With Warning Labels?

Never mind I guess its fairly obvious, though I'd never seen anti-smokers abbreviated this way. By the way, how do I edit my damn post? lol

What Is The Most Repellent Blend?

Nording: Hunter Blend: Labrador I almost threw away my favorite pipe. The knowledge alone that this blend had been in it was enough to make me retch.

Most Delicious Smoke With A Nasty Tin Smell?

Still desperately looking for it here in Canada. It's never in stock anywhere :(

Most Delicious Smoke With A Nasty Tin Smell?

Never noticed this about White Knight. Isn't it a fairly run of the mill oriental-forward english?

Most Delicious Smoke With A Nasty Tin Smell?

Interesting how McClelland has been quoted by two of you in the present tense but they've been OOP for what, 3 years? xD
