Ian Walker of Northern Briars on Radio Show 4/21/2015

Apologies. Double posting, the second of which I've deleted the text but don't know how to delete the actual post.

Ian Walker of Northern Briars on Radio Show 4/21/2015

I have met with Ian several times in the last year. We first met at the British Pipe Show in 2014 and since then I've been along to several pipe club meetings and smoke-offs where he has been the host or in which he has given me a lift to the venue. He and his wife are charming, friendly and...

Your Favorite Pipe. (Your old friend)

I have a Peterson system 314 that is around twenty-five years old and it has given me excellent service down the years. It still smokes well and, together with my Falcons, it makes part of a great team. Many other pipes clamour for first place, including some great Northern Briars, but for a...

    Falcon Pipes

I have six Falcon stems now, straight, curved and bent, with around eight bowls to choose from. A Falcon was one of the first pipes I bought as a young pipe smoker, simply because, back in my youth they were so popular amongst pipe smokers in general. That means I've been smoking a Falcon...

I'm intrigued and have to start this thread

No pic, but I have been bearded for as long as I can remember, at least from the age of 21 anyway and I'm now 59. I reckon I wouldn't recognise myself, let alone anyone else doing so, if I shaved it off. I had a young face and felt a beard would make me look more senior. Not sure if that worked...

Did You Start with a Pipe or Something Else?

Cigarettes (unfiltered, back in the early seventies), because my family smoked them and they were, then, cheap. But I graduated pretty quickly to small cigars and my first pipe when I was about nineteen. Remained in love with the pipe ever since, though cigars figured strongly for a while in my...

Novels Featuring Pipe Smoking - Post Your Favourites Here

The Maigret series, by Georges Simenon. Great reading and plenty of smoking references. In one of the books, a great scene is described where Maigret, the irrepressible pipe smoking French detective, is observing a young man on a bus trying to light a huge pipe. He thinks to himself (to...

    Ordering from Hu-Tobacco

I have ordered from HU and find them quite superb tobaccos. Sunset Flake, Directors Cut, Great Dixter and Haymaker are all recommended. Edward G blend is another that I've found quite lovely. The tobacco is clearly high quality and totally handmade. Great aromas, tastes and textures throughout...

    Smoking Indoors

Generally I smoke outdoors in the garden or on the patio. If the weather is inclement, then naturally I'll smoke indoors, but I'll always have a window or the back door open, unless it's blowing a gale or torrential rain. I don't like stale tobacco smoke smells. A Lampe Berger does the trick for...

    How Many Bowls ?

Haven't posted for a while. Accept my apologies. I recently counted around twenty bowls from a 50g pouch. That would last five days, averaging 4 bowls a day. Larger pipes will make that less, of course.

    Starting Collection of Pipes

Online retailers are great with so much to look at and choose from. In addition to new bought pipes, I have many estate ones and they are great smokers. From my own collection, I can heartily recommend Peterson, Savinelli and Stanwell. I can also recommend some artisan pipe makers, though these...

    Getting Me Some Condor!!

Good on you, sir! MySmokingShop is excellent. Living in the UK, delivery here is amazingly quick, but the short distance to Canada shouldn't make too much difference! Condor is a great tobacco - a point of opinion, I might add - so I hope you can enjoy it.

CANCELLED: U.K. Pipe & Tobacco Show

I might also add that I wish the organisers every success in this. Perhaps something can be salvaged or next year will come up with a different venue. Perhaps I ought to go to that pub as a show of solidarity? We will see.

CANCELLED: U.K. Pipe & Tobacco Show

As a UK resident, I was able to go to last year's event for the first time and what a great time all of us had. I am terribly disappointed at this news. There seems to be no end to the manipulation of the powers-that-be to stall this kind of thing. It may be that the legislation in question is a...

    Pipe Show Disappointment

Here in the UK we have, as far as I can tell, just one show in the year, based in the Nottingham area. Several pipe clubs are around, but only the one show. The one I attended last year was terrific with lots of pipes and tobaccos on sale, but then the scale of our show is smaller compared to...
