I don't think I have ever spent more than about $400 on a pipe. You can buy a pretty nice pipe at this price point, though. Here are a few of my more expensive "good smokers":

On the right, a straight-grained Cavicchi Dublin. In the middle, a small Viprati volcano. On the left, a cutty commissioned from Paul Tatum.
PS / Sorry for the crummy cellphone photo. I am no kind of photographer.

My most expensive pipe is my Comoy's Extraordinaire 499. I've posted it several times so no need to do it again.
The ones that would probably sell for the most are my Sasieni Patent 8 dot or my Chris Morgan Bing.

Thanks Pat. They were the product of a seller listing incorrect information and some lucky bidding at the right time.

If memory serves, my most expensive would be this BST by Sasquatch, which we called the "Horny Dublin". So far, of course :D

Here it is, it's my most expensive pipe, BO NORDH, brand new... Cost me A LOT. It's not yet start in use, I doubt whether I will use it.
Another most beautiful and great pipe is JESS Chonowitsch. It cost me around USD6000, it deserve the price.

Some things are relative, lol. The most expensive pipe I ever purchased? 1986 Sam Martin, bought in 1986 for $112.00, the equivalent of about $250 to $300 today.

The next most expensive, purchased a few years ago, is a Peterson Plato.

The most valuable? Probably the 1932 Dunhill Shell I got for $37.00:

Welcome to the forums grayzhu. And wow - you've got some fine taste in pipes - both beauties. Where in China are you located if I may ask? I've been to China (HK and the mainland) twice and absolutely loved my time there.

Peterson Rosslare 80s bulldog bought from fellow member Gunnar in lightly smoked condition for $90. They go for 150ish new.

The rest of my Petes and Savinellis I paid anywhere from 25 to 75 apiece, some were new, others gently used ( mostly )....

I’m very new to pipe smoking, but I just purchased a Karsten Tarp ‘Skuder’ quality apple. I paid $477 for it. See:
I don’t know if that’s too much, but if less than a month ago someone told me that I’ll be paying that much for a pipe I would never have believed them. But I was ‘smitten’ and so that’s that, and I don’t regret it in the least.
I like the fact that it’s so light and right there so close that it seems part of you. It’s my ‘Little Buddy’.
Anyway, thought I’d share.

A small bowled Meerschaum with amber stem, a mermaid rises from a shell like a graceful ship's prow carving. I didn't buy it, I simply admired it in a store. My then girl friend presented it to me for Christmas 1980. A girl like that? I married her. Most expensive pipe ever, I'm still paying for it, but enjoying almost every minute.

What is your most expensive pipe retail wise, not what you paid for it and is it your best smoker?
Mine would have to be a Rad Davis Smooth Reverse Cross Grain Zulu. Retail is about $795 but I scored this one at about half that price. My best smoker? Lets just say it is one of my 11 best smokers. Actually #11 is in the mail but I have not a doubt that it will be a superb smoker as well.

Wow! What an amazing parade of extraordinary pipes! I'm very jealous of the Paul Tatum pipe, which I spotted even before reading the description.

The most I paid for a pipe is this Pre_War Barling Quaint, which I purchased from Mel Feldman, of The Smoker Ltd.

But my most expensive piece is probably this 1909 silver capped Barling:

These go for around $1100 on average.
Both are excellent smokers.
