Only if you get saliva under the softy. Otherwise, if you leave it on, it'll block light and the stem underneath will stay clean while the rest of the stem oxidizes.

I tried them once and didn’t like them. They made me drool more and I tasted the rubber too much so I took it off and threw it away.
