When Did This Forum Become The Show Off Forum?

So just got home, and man that was a wierd post. Who are the old guys who are leaving? I'm still here! 2 years and counting. The reality of Ace is that he has always been a bit dramatic. Even so weird post. I like the atmosphere, if you ask me this forum has only gotten better with members like Roth, Harris, Bradley and others.

Nothing has changed from the show off threads the only difference is people who like to see other pads can find them easier and other who don't want to see them can avoid it easier.
This was a useless rant IMO I don't understand folks like you. I for one stand by the show off threads sure its bias cause I helped put them up in the first place. However it's really divided the men from the boys for me. If you get mad cause someone scored big on an estate find then this isn't your forum.
And What do you mean by it isn't Kevin's forum, he approved the threads in the first place. Either way it's not a lose to the integrity of this forum so bye bye I guess. Whatever.

I think it can be difficult for someone to leave his friends for a while, only to return and find his favorite room full of strangers. That can change the whole atmosphere and be disappointing. Maybe I misunderstand.
Anyway, Ace, you are welcome here. Stick around and get to know the new crowd. I'm sure at least four of the six are okay.

Interesting thread. I for one do not agree this site is ruled by a sinister six. If there is I hope there is one ring to rule them all and when we get a hold of that one ring we can then summon up a fellowship to help one lowly humble man throw that ring into the depth of some flaming volcano in the bowels of some evil land. And I would love to fight some orcs with an axe. I for one would love to take the place of the short, food loving axe wielder.

I have learned so much from this forum. I have learned about tons of different tobaccos, what pipe makers I would like to acquire pipes from, how to pack my pipe, smoking technique. I owe a lot to this forum. And who ever those six are I say thank you. But, also thank you to everyone else on this forum who post pics and show camaraderie. I love it.

This thread is really strange to me. I have only been here for less than a year & so far I really appreciate this site . Its all good to me. If someone doesn't like something , well thats too bad. I myself am very thankfull for all the help I have got from many members here. I heard someone tell me once that when that to enjoy your chicken you had to learn to pick through the bones. I would rather take the time to pick out the bones & get to enjoy all the meat I would be missing out on because of a few bones. Thanks again to you all !!

Here are my thoughts:
Am I a fan of the way the "show off" threads have taken off and the sheer number of them and the way the concept is done? Not specifically, though I do occasionally browse the show off threads for pipes I have interest in (Boswell and Mario Grandi come to mind). Its with all things in life: If you don't like it, don't look at it. Simple as that. 9 out 10 "show off" threads I avoid because I don't want to read them. I am here to talk pipes and fine pipe tobacco, to learn about things I don't know about pipe smoking, to share knowledge I have learned with new guys and to have nice discussion with like minded people who enjoy this hobby. You can't please all the people all the time, but I still think this is about the most welcoming pipe forum in the world. If you don't like it, don't read it, and don't post.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but I can't understand why we throw such fits. Ace, you're a good man, but I know you've threatened to leave the forum before. I can only hope you change your mind, but I think this whole thing is much ado about nothing. /rant.

I hate to say it but I hope ace stays gone this time. I have seen several of Ace's post and most have been very dramatic in nature. Once accusing smoking dragon of not fulfilling a pipe orde and one accusing another member of cursing him out in an e mail. He waves his private matters of not just himself but others as well for everyone to see.

Sorry you are disappointed in some of the Threads and Posts, but the beauty of the site is that you can pick and choose which ones you want to read or respond to. Hopefully you will find some interesting stuff here again and I look forward to hearing from you mate.
