All,
It wasn't my intention to escalate the drama associated with this thread. My intention was purely to indicate what my wife thought after I passed this by her for her objective opinion.
Al, as pipestud indicates, you can't go wrong with a Joe Nelson pipe. I have two and will be getting a couple more for sure. Not only are they fantastic smokers, but the guy himself is a class act.

If you do stop posting pics I will be disappointed but will respect your decision. I do encourage you to continue sharing your passion for pipe beauty with us.
I love seeing Peck's pipes along with everyone's antique finds, restoration jobs, and homemade pipes. It makes me happy to know that good people are successful/lucky/skillful and are part of the community here.

Dean a personal note to you for all to see, I like your sense of humor, I know you are a man of means, putting that aside in my view you have never gloated about your pipes, sometimes ribbing Harris gives me a good chuckle, do what you think is right but IMHO if you don"t show those beauties the forum world is less than it should be, I think you are a stand up guy, now I won"t be giveing you reach around s, but you get my drift.

I have been the recipient of Dean's (Peck) kindness personally and he is definitely a standup guy. I know I'm not in the same tax bracket as he is but have never felt looked down upon. I use these pictures as part of my education and from looking at the types of pipes that Dean posts I know what I'm looking for when I begin to work towards higher end pipes. Am I jealous because I don't have the ability to buy the types of pipes Dean does? Absolutely not, it is something to aspire to or at the very least to say, hmmm not for me but I like this or that about that pipe. Because of a post the Dean put several months ago I'm going to commission a Michael Parks pipe this fall and that will be a straight Dublin in a sand blasted finish. This decision was mostly derived from looking at several pipes that Dean has posted (I respectfully disagree with Roth and think that Dean has great taste in pipes) and taking mental notes of what I liked and didn't.
As well I absolutely love the humour that comes from the banter between Dean and Harris. So my opinion, not that it matters much, is that I hope you keep posting pictures and being the same sarcastic S.O.B. that we have all come to respect. As for the sinister six, a heartfelt thank you again for all the help you have given to me and many of the other new members here.

Ace's post sure has legs.
FWIW, I am in agreement with most everyone here about sharing pics.
Peck, don't let one sour puss ruin what has been one of the best aspects of this forum. When I first joined, if someone talked about their pipe purchase without a photo - members would write: "pic or it didn't happen" or "We love pics here".
Don't let a single complainer change what's been appreciated by the majority.
Also - remember that this is an enthusiasts forum. It's not like you're walking into the General Store and showing your co-workers a new pipe every month when they couldn't case less. I was on a MINI forum for a time. Every single person posted pics of their new car, new rims, new whatever. Frankly it was the only thing that made the forum interesting.
Finally, I will grant you that some members may get jealous when they see a $500 Rad or a $1000 Cooke. But that's their problem. Only someone with a child-like mentality would be bitter as opposed to happy for a fellow enthusiasts purchase.

I know I'm late to the thread, and new to the forum, but I have to say that the expertise and sage advise and humour coming from every single poster in this place has really elevated my appreciation of pipe smoking.
I love when people show of the pipes they've got for a steal, as it helps guide my purchasing.

I love when people show of the pipes that cost more than my car, because, holy hell looks at those things!
On a semi related note, does any one else purposefully drive slowly in front of exotic cars so you can watch them accelerate to mach 1 when the pass you? I love that. I may never, ever own a car/pipe that's as nice as those, but I get my own unique experience from them regardless.

Personally I love seeing everyone's new acquisitions, be it a cob or a Bo Nordh. This has never really been a mutual admiration society IMO, just a great place to share our love for the hobby and keep up with anything new. Whether pipes, tobacco or other interests in the pipe world. The membership numbers here blow away every other forum on the pipe scene, and even though it's only a small percentage that post messages that says something. Members come and go, but will eventually return because this is where it's at!!

A good discussion guys and thanks for any kind comments directed at me. For the record, and in case the wife stumbles upon this thread (a likely scenario given that she knows how much time I spend here and was asking me about it), I just want to emphasize that I have NEVER spent more than $80 on a pipe, and I only own 7 pipes. :D

I've got your back. I'll swear to it to your wife, if the need arises.

@papipeguy

It's all in fun. You can participate or choose not to.
Exactly.
@bigvan

I pretty much agree with you all, but I also know Ace and he's a solid guy. I kind of (KIND of) agree with his assessment of the emergence of a mutual admiration society. There's nothing wrong with that, but some guys just come here to talk about pipes, not to make friends (or as much as you can on the internet).
I understand where Ace is coming from too, and if I understand your post correctly JJ, I think I agree with you.
The thing is that all of this stuff is just the nature of communities on the internet. We are not going to make this a police-state, over-moderated, over-controlled forum.
- Some people like to show off their stuff. What goes on around here is nothing compared to Facebook.
- The "mutual admiration society" is also nothing new. I've been posting on forums and involved in Internet-based businesses for over 12-years and it's always been this way.
- Contrary to what I think is popular belief, I personally DO NOT read every thread and post here. That is partially because I don't have time, and in part because some of the topics do not interest me. The point of that is - if you don't like it, than don't look at it it.
There are some threads here that do not interest me, and there are also some that I'm not really even fond of, but I understand what makes a good forum and community, so those threads remain alive.
I'm not thrilled with the Grumpy Old Bastard topic, but when I saw how everyone reacted to it, I let it go. That can change based on future posts, but for now, I think it's harmless .... and I am not participating in it.
I just want to make that point one more time - you don't have to love every thread here - and when one doesn't interest you, ignore it.
@easterntraveler

Wow what a prick thing to say;
Please watch the name calling.

Thanks a lot Doc, now I feel like Jan Brady.....
Lastly, thanks to everyone for participating, sharing and making this place what it is. Overall, I'm proud of how this place has evolved.
Thanks again.
I'm closing this now so we can all move on with our lives.
