No I don't. And its Miss G :) And I did not state there was no difference over the years. Of course with different batches of leaf going into blends, blends being done by hand etc there will always be variation. And again over years other things will change from what flavourings are available and from where, what can and cannot be used due to regulations etc.....I think most products made today that were also made 30+ years ago will show some variation in components, ingredients etc.
You don't know what you are missing! Actually I think the new Deputy P.M chews on cigars if the Daily Mail is to be believed. I agree with your point about additives. As one of the former owners of Standard Tobacco I am well versed in trying to get a product last sold 40+ years ago to taste as people remembered it - nailing a jelly to the ceiling comes to mind. Maybe we could just add a little more rose geranium to the Ennerdale if you get the chance on the next batch. Pretty please!

There is more than ever going to the States and far more regularly but demand is incredibly high so a 40 ft shipping container of product sells out within a week or so. There are constantly orders in production for the States.
Laudisi must be holding out the because I check regularly and its been only a few choices for a long time. I just want some twists...

I wonder if a covid infection history affects Lakeland essence perception. The conspiracy theories, the dramatic uptick of Lakeland cravers and the pandemic seem to correlate.

Avon or Yardley needs to market a freshening restorative spritz of the scent for the nouveau addicts and the women who love them. And septagenarian grandmothers.

I remember reading last year that a scented candle company started getting a flood of 1-star reviews because their candles couldn't be smelled anymore. Uh-oh...

Thanks for participating on the forums. Is there any Idea (roughly) as to when we can expect the drop? I'm feigning for some Brit baccy!

Thankfully, my favourites from both Samuel Gawith & Gawith Hoggarth & Company are the same as they have always been, nothing short of excellent. The 'Lakeland Sauce' blends or 'Floral' as I prefer to call them, have changed however. I don't think it's that they've 'toned down' the sauce, to me it's like a different sauce altogether! Somethings happened, shenanigans in the sauce department? Different source of sauce? New staff who don't know their HP from their Worcester?
@gawithhoggarth need to sort this out, that's for sure.
Ennerdale has gone from smelling & tasting like this...
View attachment 166856To smelling & tasting like this. A sickly, chemical, plasticine tasting flake. It wont do I'm afraid, it really won't.

This is the best description of what happened to Ennerdale that I have ever seen.
I miss the old Ennerdale something fierce. I became enamored with it when a kind fellow sent me a generous load of the stuff from years ago. As I was nearing the end of it, I ordered a pound of the current stuff to keep my supply up... only to discover that I'd missed out. I wish that I hadn't spent my money on this pound. I'd rather remember Ennerdale as it once was.

Why don't they vacuum seal their tins anymore ? That seems new.
This another one that has been beaten to death as well. SG/GH have repeatedly stated that that are all vacuum sealed, but issues may occur during transportation, etc. I had one that was "sealed" but the cardboard insert inside was between the top of the bottom lip and lid seal so it was not actually sealed. The tobacco was dry and scentless when I opened to smoke it upon receipt The vendor had no more and SG/GH did not offer any help. They took it under advisement though.

And the Almonds!! Don’t forget the delightful almond essence that used to creep up on you as you smoked through the bowl. I’d love to think they’ll try & get back to the original recipe of flavours but I doubt they’ll bother. Roses?? I reckon the only roses they’ll be giving us will be these ones……

I bought all of my bulk SG Best Brown, Full Virginia and St James Flakes in the summer of 2012. The flakes were thick and real jerky like. what impressed the hell out of me was that every box was consistent with all the flakes being the same size and thickness. I was really happy about that as before I got these pounds in I had bought a pound of Hamborger Veermaster that was a third shake, I was totally pissed and only bought tins after that. I didn't buy that many, maybe 40 as I had other morning blends I liked better. I ended up buying around 40 pounds of the SG Flakes and they have been sitting in their homes ever since. Prices back then were 55 a pound and when I bought 5 pounds of one blend I got a 10% discount which was cool. When I was in the mood for an SG flake I would smoke one of the aged ones I had picked up here and there.

Over the years I have bought numerous aged SG tins as old as 2004. Not once did a tin fail and for some weird reason all of the Golden Glow I bought came at the perfect humidity where as all the others were the typical sopping wet. My Golden Glows were from 2005,2008 and 2010. I have yet to figure that out.

I have been thinking of opening a 2012 Best Brown that was part of a 25 tin order from JRCigars. It was the last order I made from them and I began with them in the early 80's buying cigars. I never paid much attention to their pipe tobacco offerings, yeah I am a dumbass.

I honestly cannot fathom how many people are having problems with loose tins. In over 25 years I still haven't had one. I began opening 1997 tins in 2012 and have been opening aged tins ever since.

Am I the only one on the planet who keeps his temp and humidity constant all year long? I doubt it. Up until 6 months or so ago every tin or jar I had ever put away stayed where I put it and it never moved. Then I had my kids organize my stash months ago. All they did was empty every full box of flakes and plugs in their shipping boxes that were stacked in my closet and organize them. None of my bulk jars moved an inch

. The kids only organized my tins and put them together so if I had a 150 tins of something, they would put them all together. Now they are organized I still cannot find shit. I have to have one of my kids show me where stuff is if I want to smoke it.

I cannot be the only one who has never had a tin fail. I don't believe it, the odds say I have to have at least a couple fail but so far none.
The only thing I ever had happen was when a 2012 tin of GL Navigator that was bulging almost made me shit my pants when it blew. I was not expecting the sound of an M80 going off when I cracked it. The tobacco was perfect and the 10 years of age made it tasty as can be.

The Navigator could have gotten great at 5 or 8 years but I have this thing about aging for 10 years. Don't ask me why I prefer ten years, I have no rational reasoning for it.
