GCW Tournament of Survival 2. I think it's from 2017. Pretty decent so far. I am working my way to current. Don't Google it unless you enjoy insane deathmatch wrestling, barbed wire, glass tubes and some fire. It's a modern day circus side show. So far I am rating it 4.5/5

Finally came to the end of the 13 episode 'Over There' DVD boxset last night. I bought it back in 2020

Part Afghan war diary and part soap opera, it was entertaining for the most part but the guy who played the company sergeant (sergeant godammit I called him) let down the side I thought with his perpetual shouting.

It was interesting but I was glad to get to the last episode so a 3/5 score from me.

Regards,

Jay.

The Captain on Amazon Prime.

It's a 2917 German language film based on the true story of German Private Willi Herold. In the dying days of WW2 he came across a crashed car which contained the uniform of a highly decorated luftwaffe Captain. Willi took the uniform and passed himself off as the Captain.

He then went on to command a small group of soldiers and committed various war crimes/atrocities.

If you like war movies you'll probably enjoy it. Pretty dark stuff but I really liked it.

5/5

I just finished an Australian show called Mr. Inbetween - it sits somewhere between a dark comedy and a crime drama about a hitman who struggles to balance his work life and personal life, being a single father, and feelings of isolation, grief, and loneliness. The writing feels like it comes from a place of real honesty - there's a uniquely raw and real aspect to it despite the ostensibly formulaic premise (He's a criminal! But he's got feelings!).

Probably a 4/5. It's not exactly groundbreaking stuff in terms of the premise, but is executed excellently on a very small budget and the smaller, contained world it exists in is compelling and feels like you could reach out and touch it. The characters feel like people, not characters.

3 episodes in on Season 6 of Black Mirror.
EP #1 was a 1/5
Ep #2 & #3 were better - 4/5

Rewatching No Country For Old Men (5/5) with my son-in-law, who has never seen the film. One of my all time favorite movies.

Also wrapping the Tour De France today.

Have to echo your sentiment - No Country For Old Men is easily a top 5 movie for me. Incredible pacing and editing, it sucks me in like very few movies have.

I missed this one in 2022. The male actor was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, I can see why. I think I saw Jennifer Lawrence, and thought "pass". But, this is a very good movie, 5/5.

If I had seen this trailer I would have absolutely passed on seeing this film. It screams “There’s nothing there” but we’re going to artfully pretend that there is. I despise trailers like this.
