Welcome to Wrexham 3/5.
I am from the UK and wanted to find out what drove two famous Hollywood actors to want to by a low league Welsh football team. The program doesn't overly focus on Ryan and Rob, but instead spends episode after episode of Wrexham locals telling us why their football team is better than others, and why Wrexham is more deserving of this good fortune than other equally downtrodden UK towns. Its a story I have heard a thousand times before. I think the programme is aimed at the North American audience looking to discover what the UK equivalent of PhiladeIphia might be like, rather than the UK audience who wonders wtf they bought Wrexham FC for. Can't see myself sticking with it, but I truly hope Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney succeed and have the towns best interests at heart as they seem like decent people. Would be interesting to hear an American perspective on whether the town of Wrexham is getting any air play over there.

The Pope's Exorcist 1/5.
Every kliché in the book, served at the expected time.

Take Shelter 4/5.
Interesting story, skilled actors and suspense in this minimalistic movie.

My wife and I have been watching Mansfield Park from 1999. If you like Austen and are interested in Georgian England, etc., this is excellent. We just watched Persuasion from 2008 with Sally Hawkins. I'd give both of them respective 4.5s/5. I also started showing my wife the film A Woman Under the Influence by Cassavetes to give her an idea of what she should avoid in terms of becoming crazy 😜. That's a 5/5 movie. Gena Rowlands is the craziest crazy I know. If you don't like art films, check out the movie Gloria which is the same actress and the same director minus the art and Gena just getting revenge on the mob while protecting a small boy against their blood lust:
Gloria=5/5
Also watching Silo on Apple. I think everything is low quality these days. I didn't expect this to be great but I did read these books when I was at a low point. At the time I liked them but I think they're actually very so-so books but probably good for young adults. To make it good for a series is hard. These days, there is no "style" or "vision." The last time I saw anything in science fiction with style was Battlestar Gallactica. Even that was rather ruined by all the flashbacks and "in-mind" drama and extreme lack of brevity. I think that show produced 20-something episodes a season when it should have done 10. Plus it had an awful ending. Anyway, I digress. Silo gets 2/5.

After going to Kigali, Rwanda last November and visiting the Genocide Memorial, a very moving experience for me, I finally watched "Hotel Rwanda" for the first time, a compelling portrayal of the horrific events of 1994, notwithstanding the fact it reportedly contained some inaccuracies..

I think Silo only has two episodes out currently, correct?
I watched episode one, and enjoyed it.
You are right on BSG and the ending. For a few seasons, The Expanse was pretty good.

Yes. Just two episodes. I’m a bit down on these shows, both Silo and even The Expanse. I just tried a little of The Expanse. BSG has a great production design and great ideas behind it but I think I couldn’t sit through that show again - all those endless meanderings of other realities in that Dr’s “world.” To me it’s indulgence. I guess I’m just on a different page. It’s why I could never like a show like Lost. My favorite dramas were The Wire, Deadwood, and Mad Men and even Mad Men made the mistake of resorting to irrelevant flashbacks now and again. The first True Detective was good too as were the early Fargo-s.
I will watch Silo anyway. I want to see it until I can’t stand it anymore. It’s certainly not bad. But I wish someone with a real vision like David Lynch would come back to TV or emerge. Now there’s a one-of-a-kind artist. Some may say I’m contradicting myself because many will find him the epitome of self-indulgence but I think he’s a real risk-taker. The Streaming world is unlikely to produce something that looks really unique.

The last two seasons of the Expanse were very good, what BSG should have been. We're of like minds on The Wire, Mad Men (very much too indulgent at times). I also disliked the Dr Baltar scenes from BSG (Only #6 made them tolerable)

We watched A Man Called Otto last night. It was well done. Has some hard scenes in regards to suicide and the main character's memories of his deceased wife. But the overarching theme of the importance of community was particularly valuable, esp. in this day of such disconnectedness and apathy towards others. Worth the two hours.

Season 1 is 10 episodes. The first two dropped at once. Then, it's one every Friday night until it's run its course.

I read Hugh Howey's book about 10 years ago and still have vivid memories of the incredibly rich world building. The plot and characters are all decent, but the world of Silo was very well thought out. The TV adaptation is like reading a Cliff's Notes version, but I still enjoy it.

I just realized that I obviously can't follow directions as I didn't rate either of the movies I posted about.

Bullet Train - 2
A Man Called Otto - 4
