Earlier, I smoked a bowl of Wilke Gentry Royal Blend No. 2 in a 1972 three quarter bend black Dunhill Shell 52021 billiard with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Haven't smoked this pipe lately.

Currently, I've a third of a bowl left of year 2014 Full Virginia Flake in a straight 1968 Dunhill Shell bulldog with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Been moving things around the den, and fed all the ferals except for the absent Abner the Eager. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Back to pipes now. After two break-in sessions of Smoker's Pride Whiskey, and one smoke with Smoker's Pride Classic, I gave the little Pete a rest for a day. It struck me during the Classic that this pipe was behaving a lot like my large independent made briar bowl for my Falcons. The Pete seemed to like these aro-codgers, so I gave it a trial run with some Captain Black Cherry. Yeah, I like it lot! And so did the Peterson.

I had a very good smoke . . . . the tobacco is a bit raunchy on the cherry side as most of you know, but the whole shebang worked. I expect the Peterson to be a real plus for evening aros and codgers when I don't want to smoke a large pipe. I'll try this combo tomorrow again and let you know what transpires!

I have a few mortas.
It’s just a different material - but cool to have a pipe made from material that is several thousands of years old.

Moretti (Marco Biagini) has his own website and also sells through EBay and LePipe.it
They are good starting level pipes.
Marco is a gentleman and responds quickly to enquiries.
If you don’t see any that catches your fancy, he will be happy to make one for you.

Mimmo Provenzano and Il Duca are 2 more Italian makers of mortas

Davorin Denovic is well-.known for his mortas.
Altinok also carries his pipes

Lots of other makers - DotterPipes, Chris Askwith, Reiner Thilo, Scottie Piersel, Manduela to name a few.

There is a morta thread as well as a Moretti thread in the “Show us your ……. Pipes” section
Look through them to see if any catches your eye
Hey thanks! I really like the texture of the morta and the black color suits my aesthetic too. I like the idea of semi fossilized wood too. I’ll check them out!

Morta jewellery in the Victorian era was popular as momento mori because of the black colour.
A few years ago I had a couple of pocket knives made for my sons, one with morta scales

Did a little snacking, and have passed the half way mark of this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a 1979 black sandblasted medium bend Savinelli Non Pareil 9606 Billiard with a military mount horn ferrule and black vulcanite saddle stem. Harry the Hairy loves to be held, and this is his favorite position when he's relaxed.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, fed Tomato the Brave, emptied the dishwasher, put up some DVDs, and have a third of a bowl left of year 2018 Sutliff Walnut Match in a 1990s smooth brown medium bend briar calabash shaped Butz-Choquin Maitre Pipier JR Fait Main with a horn ferrule and a black vulcanite stem. I remembered to set my clocks an hour forward, too. :)

Trying out Smoker's Pride Whiskey in a Country Gentleman cob tonight before bed.

With the demise of Sutliff my old favorite whiskey aromatic Super Value Bourbon Whiskey is no more, and knowing from experience that the whiskey topping on that one all evaporates off about a year after the production date there didn't seem to be much point in trying to stock up on it, so I've been hunting around trying to find a suitable replacement for it.

Most whiskey flavored aromatics are way too subtle for my liking, but this one is actually surprisingly good. It doesn't slap you in the face with whiskey quite like the Super Value did, but it definitely leaves a pleasant and very obvious whiskey flavor lingering on the tongue; and it's a lot smoother of a blend and much more gentle on the sinuses when retrohaled than Super Value's Bourbon Whiskey ever was. It's also vastly better than the current version of Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey, which to my palate has no discernable whiskey flavor it all, and beats the pants off the Peter Stokkebye whiskey blends too.

I'll have to keep smoking it for a few awhile and see how I feel about it in the long run, but my initial impression of Smoker's Pride Whiskey is very positive and I think it's the best whiskey flavored blend I've tried thus far that's still in production. It always surprises me when a cheapo economy tobacco blend ends up being better than the boutique stuff, but I do believe this is one of those cases. puffy

That was precisely the same reason I bought myself my Chris Askwith morta... and then I realised that any Meer one has is likely to be made from meterial that is several *millions* of years old... :-/ But morta, like Meer, does seem to provide a uniquely cool smoke because it 'breathes' so well.
