A leather wrap? How does that work out vs other pipes?

Leather wrapped pipes were pretty common at various times in the past. The initial idea behind them was to make use of briar pipes that had fills or cosmetic issues that reduced their desirability. They smoke just like any other briar pipe. Many of us here own them, and I own several myself.

Not far from finishing this bowl of year 2014 Astley’s No. 55 in a 1915-1920 straight smooth dark brown BBB Own Make 150 apple with a silver band and a tapered black vulcanite stem.

I've read beeswax for both increasing grip AND slip... Seems to do whatever is asked of it. YMMV

Smoking 6 year old C&D Privateer in a Peterson meer for Meerschaum March.

Did a second set of walking reps, and smoked a bowl of year 2015 D&R A.B. Rimboche in an undated slight bend, smooth flame grain Wessex Standard egg with a brown accent on the black vulcanite saddle stem.

Always such a luxurious backdrop to your pics, and also, a luxurious pipe!

Thank you. I figure it only takes an extra minute or two to set up the cloth, so why not make the pic a little better than just shooting it on the bed, which I used to do. I originally bought the cloth to cover some foam to use at the bottom of my Colossus Pipe Factory copper and glass humidor from the early 20th Century to use as a small display case for some of my C.P.F. tobacciana. It didn't take much cloth and the amount left over was big enough to use as a backdrop.

Back to the meerschaum today. Amphora Virginia Blend for my first smoke in this estate meer. The stem on this pipe was completely straight when I received it, and it looked really weird as a result. I had to put the bend back with some patience and hot water.

Doug Finlay Dublin and another go with some 4th Generation Resolution. Probably all in my head, but aside from my Meer, this pipe seems really good for “testing” blends.

Dan Tobacco Mallard Flake with Perique in a Peterson Classic Deluxe 120 PSB. Probably only one more smoke left in this tin, it's a really good vaper.
