Pure serendipity that I have this article on the Masta patent as it was the clay pipe article on the other side that drew me to the item as back in the 1980s when I was researching my clay pipes I had no Internet and everything was gleaned from books, scholarly articles and cuttings such as this one from1903:-

I just realised, looking at my post and the several posts above it, that my pipe photo leaves rather a lot to be desired. It's not as bad as some of the shady outfits on EBay, but there are some talented photographers here and I am going to have to ramp up!
