Cornell & Diehl Haunted Bookshop in a bronze Falcon International with a Hunter Dublin bowl for me this afternoon.
For a couple years now Haunted Bookshop has been my favorite blend in terms of flavor, but it always gives me a really sore throat after smoking it on account of my sensitivity to both Burleys and Perique.
So, I've been on the hunt to see if I could find a way to smooth out the smoke from Haunted Bookshop enough to not bother my throat; and the combination of the Falcon system's pipe cleaner ring filter in the humidome underneath the bowl with a Dr. Grabow 6mm paper tube filter (the best filter I've found so far for reducing the harshness of a blend) in the stem is my latest attempt to tame Haunted Bookshop. So far it seems to be working pretty darn well, since I just finished smoking the whole bowl down to ash without a speck of tobacco remaining and my throat is feeling just fine!
I was also able to retrohale most of the bowl for 45 minutes straight without much in the way of sinus discomfort, so it seems like the dual filtration system is working nicely to smooth out the smoke; and I didn't notice any loss of flavor in the process! I'll have to wait and see if a sore throat sets in a few hours from now, as it often does when I smoke Haunted Bookshop, but for now I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that I may have finally found a way to smoke my favorite blend without my throat getting aggravated.
