Loading up my favorite HU blend, Makhuwa, in a Castello “Lake Como” billiard. Costello briars stay lit in this cold weather on a long walk with the Doberman. Now, if Castello only came out with a soft ebonite stem, I would smoke no other brand of pipe.View attachment 372325
I DO love the pipe, but…I’d probably love the Doberman even more. For those of us who love them, there is no substitute.

Ive moved on to an after lunch sample of Reiners long golden flake. So far its nice tobacco but a little too laid back and mild for my tastes....it lacks the eventfulness I hunt for in a smoke....at least so far. That said, the jury is still out. It is a nice blend. Its in a Kai Rhodesian.

EDIT: I stand corrected, this is going to take its place in roatation. Its pretty cool stuff.

Amen!

I’ve toyed with getting a 3D printer to make 1/6 scale heads for custom action figures, but have held off because of concerns about fine enough resolution in the printing for detailed likenesses. Your 3D printed replacement Merchant Service stems have got me thinking of making some replacement stems for some antique Meerschaum pipes with damaged amber stems that might actually fit in the original cases. Hmmm.

Earlier, because I couldn't sleep, I smoked a bowl of year 2017 Velvet in a straight smooth medium brown post-1940s Comoy’s Tradition 110B billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem.

Currently, I'm half way through this bowl of year 2016 D&R Two Timer Gold in a straight, black sandblasted pre-1970 Comoy’s Sunrise Etched Grain straight Liverpool 309 with a tapered black vulcanite stem. The snow stopped yesterday afternoon, but came back this morning. I went outside to see if Tomato the Brave or Abner the Eager were anywhere around, but they aren't. Maybe when the sun comes out later this afternoon, they'll venture over our way. And maybe I'll get a snooze in when this smoke is finished.

My first pipe of this beautiful, yet cold, International Pipe Smoking Day, is this humble yet wonderful Nording Signature Freehand. This pipe, along with a Peterson Saint Patrick's Day XL90, was my first purchase from Smokingpipes in February of 2013 a few months into the beginning of my pipe smoking journey. It began my love for both Nording and Peterson pipes. These Signature Freehands are quite inexpensive, yet smoke every bit as well as the high grades. Of course, the natural unstained coloring from smoking is a joy to watch develop over time as well. This is truly one of my favorite pipes, so it's fitting that it be my first pipe of IPSD 2025. Here it is loaded with John Aylesbury's Dragon Flake, along with its photo from Smokingpipes. Happy International Pipe Smoking Day everyone. May you all have wonderful smokes this day!1000000461.jpg1000000462.jpg

Smoking son HH Burley Flake in a 1950’s/60’s Comoy. I love this blend so much I genuinely don’t know if I’ll enjoy anything else once my cellar of it is gone.

Been trying to get back into briars lately but just can’t do it after being an almost exclusive meerschaum smoker. Too much moisture build up and nasty gunk in the bottom for my liking which really affects the taste for me. IMG_6887.jpeg
