Since I was able to order some Black House today (I was afraid all was lost!) I felt it was safe to get into my dwindling supply of my first favorite Balkan blend to load this Nording Grade 14. It's small for a Nording, but it's a fantastic smoker, and I feel like I don't smoke it as much as I should as it handles everything from ribbon to Flake very well. Black House jarred in 2013 and recently opened.1000000471.jpg

Enjoyed two foot long pastrami subs for lunch with unsalted peanuts, and a bowl of vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. I'm near the finish of this bowl of year 2021 KBV Your Welcome in a straight smooth dark brown 1930s (Comoy’s) Canadian Club 230 eight paneled billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Gold Star Jamaican Estate Reserve, neat, is my drink. Abner the Eager is laying on top of my chair. Cleaned a few pipes, and am watching an episode of Nova about Pompeii.

G&H apple twist in my Stanwell , it's a gorgeous pipe , nice grain ,smokes well but to be honest I think I prefer my Falcon. Bowls are just right for my smoke
Only been in the game for 9- 10 months so I'm sure my opinions will change.
I did order a lovely estate Northern Briars pipe, but on delivery it was massive. It would have ended up in the drawer unused. Beautiful looking pipe and I have some regret in sending it back
We like pictures friend. puffy

Solani 633 Flake in my Savinelli 316KS and some Liquid Death. The 633 burns easy and smooth in this wide bowl..!

Interesting pairing. I can definitely see how the mango would do well with a Vaper like 633. 👍
If i'm doing a single malt with a similar style of baccy, i always go for the fruitier ones for the same reason.

Time to fire up a bowl of Night Owl (love this stuff) in a Rad Davis squashed tomato and then off to throw some venison on the BBQ. :)

Peterson Early Morning Pipe, in the same Falcon International stem as earlier this afternoon but with an English blend dedicated Hunter Bulldog bowl now.

I was curious what effect the Falcon system and a 6mm Dr. Grabow filter would have on Early Morning Pipe, given how much it smoothed out the Haunted Bookshop I had earlier today. What I learned is that the flavor of Early Morning Pipe stayed the same, though the filtration system took all the acidity out of the bright Virginias.

On one hand that was nice since it allowed me to retrohale it quite a bit without sinus discomfort and gave the smoke a softer mouthfeel, but on the other hand part of what makes EMP work so well is the interplay between the acidity of the bright Virginias and the sour tang of the Orientals; so taking all the acidity out of the Virginias does muck up the balance of the blend a bit.

Still, it was a mellow and very enjoyable smoke. I also learned that if you're going to go from smoking a Burley blend to an English blend, change the filter first. The filter is good for two smokes, but the residue left in it from the first smoke of Haunted Bookshop did impart a little bit of that distinctive Cornell & Diehl magical barnyard funk to the Early Morning Pipe and I don't think it benefited from it! 😅

I know everyone says those filters are good for multiple smokes but I cant bring myself to use them more than once. Things get kinda gross in there.

I’ve never heard that a pipe “filter” can neutralize the pH of Virginias.
