This historical-crime-noir book was one of the best that I've read in several years. The story is about a murder investigation that takes place Honolulu just before Pearl Harbor and continues thru the war. It's very well written.

I am reading "The Scarab Murder Case" by S.S. Van Dine. It is the fifth of twleve books about Philo Vance.
Just finished re-reading The Hobbit now onto The Lord of the Rings which I haven’t read since high school.

A fantastic book - all four in that series are good reads. Do read "Hard Boiled Wonderland" if you haven't already, I really enjoyed it (I'm a bit of a Murakami reader, though I couldn't get through the last book).
I'm reading lots of research, but for pleasure, I'm thumbing through the hilarious Gonzo Letters of H.S. Thompson and the rather salacious letters of James Joyce (see some interesting/raunchy excerpts here).

I’m almost finished with volume 2. Toll does a great job of moving from the big picture to the individual experience. Very entertaining read so far.
Just finished Sin Killer so I’m onto the second book of the Berrybenders.
Just got the Evergreen edition of Little Nemo in Slumberland. Have searched high and low for an affordable copy and finally found it! The art is breathtaking.
At 70 I am at an age were I can finally read Moby Dick from cover to cover for no particular reason.
Evergreen published a reprint of the "complete" series as originally run in the years 1905-1914. In my search, I have come across chatter from hardcore fans who know of a few strips that didn't make it into that edition, but I'm not a completist.
Mark Lewisohn's Tune In (The Beatles: All These Years Vol 1). The Peter Jackson Get Back documentary got me fired up.
