Sorry to digress

I grew up in multicultural Malaysia and Indian cuisine was a staple.

A favourite b’fast was roti Chani - flaky bread, cooked on a griddle with dhal (spiced lentil sauce)
On Saturday mornings my brother and I would walk 20mins to the Indian restaurant to buy a piece of roti and dhal for M’sian 50cents. That was a good 60 years ago.

On a recent trip to Kuala Lumpur, I had roti for b’fast - M’sian ringgit $5 (USD $1.20) for roti plus 3 sauces (Dhal, chicken curry and fish curry) plus a cup of very good coffee.
Simple pleasures.

Good to know inflation has not impacted Malaysia that much in 6 decades

Oh this is still here ok well for lunch today i made shrimp and chicken satay, i have been trying out different marinade blends.

Har Mee (prawn noodles) - a Penang specialty

The star is the umami rich broth - long simmered prawn shells&heads and pork

Served with rice vermicelli or Hokkien mee (thick egg noodles) or both. Plus prawns, slices of pork, boiled egg, bean sprouts and kankong(water spinach).
With Sambal and pork crackling
