I am trying to stay away from this toabcco. I really have an adversion to Sutliff tobaccos but must admit this tobacco is calling my name.
Then you don’t have many choice beyond Captain Black, since Sutliff supplies tobaccos to a wide range of blending house both here and abroad, as well as producing blends for other companies under other labels

If I'm not mistaken, the blends Watch City produces rely on Sutliff for a primary source of blending components, and I believe their crumble cakes (Old Dominion, Watch City Slices, etc.), which are very fine blends indeed, are entirely produced by Sutliff, to Ernie Q's specifications. I also believe Seattle Pipe Club outsources their production to Sutliff.
It reminds me of contract brewing in the beer industry.

A lot of the small blenders/B&M's rely on Sutliff or C&D for production. D&R doesn't but they're one of the few. It's a lot of work to run a production line. I can see why you'd farm it out to someone else who's set up to do it.

Correct on both citations. BTW, Sutliff supplied tobaccos to McClelland, notably their Syrian Latakia.

My understanding is that McBaren owns Sutliff. I have issues with "McBite", and I wonder if the tobacco's are the same between the two companies.

Anyone have insight?

Has anyone done well with Sutliff blends but not done well with McBarenn blends? Or are they the same base tobacco's.

They do a little cross pollination, but not a whole lot. Mac Baren doesn't case their tobaccos, which is the Danish style. To me, that accounts for potential bite. I find with age, the bite tends to go away in most of their blends.
