The mystery that I am most bewildered by is that of the origins of synjeco tobaccos. The social media woman for Gawith said that they haven't imported anything to them in years, but they are still selling their ropes. So I don't know what is going on there.
I read from the same "social media woman" that they are in legal proceedings against Synjeco for monies owed to Gawith.

I still think Chuck Barris wrote a crappy spy story and the publisher said this a piece of crap but if you claim it's real we can sell it. That's what I think happened with his huge lie.
There’s always someone out there who feels that it’s their job to crap on the incredible accomplishments of others. I mean, what’s so unbelievable about an alcoholic third-rate gameshow host leading a secret life as a highly disciplined and skilled contract killer risking his life to save his country? C’mon, man!

Agreed... the number one quality of every spy and secret agent is that they tell everyone they know and don't know who and what they do. It's in the CIA handbook.

I mean it is a great cover. And nothing in the world is as good of an alibi as being to busy being recorded for television to be assassinating the President of Crawakkystanbad. I mean you know you're real good when people think what you do is physically impossible.

But he still owes my FIL $40 bucks (They were frat brothers at Drexel in the early 50’s)

Chuck Barris.
He was out drinking with my FIL and “realized” that he had no money and no way home. My father-in-law lent him $40 and never got it back.
Father-in-law makes sense. Dude should be happy he got out of it alive with how dangerously close he got to being gonged. I mean a cold blooded government assassin could of just taken the 40 bucks before the poor guy even hit the floor.

I finally had to look up who this guy was after these few posts. I now know why this man should be feared.

By coincidence, on Friday I received 2 tins of KC flake from an online vendor.
Date code of 08 318 (07-08-2021) and the contents were completely dry.....I'm not sure of the tins being used today, but those from that time period are worthless as far as maintaining their seal.
IMO Gawith would benefit greatly by going to a round tin.
The topping on the last Ennerdale I purchased was faint at best.
I really like the older strong Gawith Lakeland essence and hope/pray it returns.
It’s still the same garbage tins, I don’t know why they wouldn’t keep looking for a better solution, or come up with a better design

I think it also makes it easier to keep the tin lids with the tobacco during shipping, so that when a tobacconist gets these boxes of unsealed tins, they don't have to go looking and guessing which lid goes with which tobaccos.

I would just buy boxes from them, if I were going to buy them. It's not very economical to buy tins that aren't sealed.
Very true

What's the betting the tins are made in China? Everything they make is lightened and of reduced quality from the design they've copied to maximise shipping volume and profit. I'm not blaming GH. They're subject to the same economic realities as everyone else. But much as I prefer a square tin to a round one (mainly for nostalgic reasons if I'm honest), if these very thin and flimsy tins aren't sealing reliably and that's damaging GH's international reputation, maybe they should switch to round screw lid tins, or another design altogether.

There are plenty of other products that come in quality tins. There shouldn’t be a problem contracting in the UK for what they need. Or why not just move to a pull-top with a plastic lid, ala C&D?

I hadn't realised those tins were ring-pull. I've seen pictures of tins posted on here with pop-top plastic lids and I did wonder how they were sealed. Now I know, it makes perfect sense. They would be a particularly good idea for export.
The square tins aren't much of a problem in the UK. Stock here doesn't have to be shipped far or for very long or in such bulk. Crossing the Atlantic, especially if it's in ships, is a different matter.
@gawithhoggarth what do you think?

Maybe I should start a business manufacturing canned packaging in the UK..🤔
