Oh it’s fantastic. Very smooth. You can tell it’s lost a step, but the moisture content was absolutely perfect.
I've had cutter tops of the known blends,Nuns,Night Cap etc. which were incredible but I've also had blends I've never heard of that were fantastic. One of the most delicious I've had was a cutter top of Condor😋

Here’s an old cutter top. No clue of its age, but my guess is it’s from the 30’s. It’s Two Flakes and it’s from Ireland. It smells pretty good and this is all I’ll smoke until it’s gone. Air will destroy the contents within a day or two. But it’ll be gone by then and fire will have beaten air to destruction.

Wow. What are those holes (numbers?) punched into the paper insert? I have seen that on many blends from the 40's to the 70's. Looks like old computer punch card digits.

Quite a find! I’ve been curious about this ever since I read @pipestud ‘s notes on tobacco reviews.

Quoting Mr. Fallon’s review there:

Story has it that an employee of Gallaher's was in the Macedonian region and discovered an already harvested crop of center cut Virginia leaf that had been sun curing for several years. Because the leaf had been cut into large squares and baled hat way, other blenders had shied away from it. But, this Gallaher's employee decided to sample some of it without any processing and was amazed at the smoothness and richness of the blend. So, Gallaher's bought it and had enough leaf to sell tins for several years before they ran out.

A pioneer example of small batch “limited release” marketing in pipe tobacco puffy

Is that a 1930s Peterson as your smoking instrument? Because that would be just too perfect.

Popped a few new-to-me blends today. Keeping the smoking experience fresh and explorative.

One was Ellipsis Flake which @Auxsender has already shown here Friday, so i excluded that one.

Here's the other two...

C & D Dreams of Kadath, which i hesitantly picked up. Usually wary of toppings but thought what the heck. There are a few others that i've enjoyed, such as Freja and Loki, Mad Fiddler, Haddo's Delight, etc which have some topping that isn't too intrusive. Never know unless you give it a shot.

The other is 4th Generation Fathers Friends & Fire series, Viginia Oriental Flake, which sounds right up my alley. I have a Pierluigi fishtail that is eagerly awaiting a bowl full of this stuff.

2017 London blend. Out of the Dunhill blends, I still prefer Nightcap in this darker, fuller Latakia, topped with tonquin English category. It’s nice. Definitely falls in line with the Nightcap, Quiet Nights, Ashton Artisan’s blend crowd. Westminster and Artisan’s are more complex, but not as smooth or Oriental forward.

Oh that’s good stuff but my oh didn’t work with the blend and it was bity. I think I’d buy again tho!
I'm still considering how I'm going to prepare this one [No. 8 Slices]: thanks for the warning! I'd like to try it this weekend, but time is short with my wife's birthday and Mother's Day on the same weekend, and I want to give it the time it deserves.

I think it was just my personal pH didn’t jive with it but it was tasty, tho very spicy on the tongue for me :). I def recommend it to everyone tho because despite my tongue bite I thought it was very good and wish I could handle it better.

Man I wish I could get better pics than these because these gorgeous flakes have more sugar growing on them than anything I’ve had the pleasure of smoking.they light up like a bike riders reflective clothing at night in a cars headlamps when I shine a flashlight on them. I got really lucky and recently found a few tins of well aged Englis/balkan blends. I got one tin of Magnum Opus, one tin of Black house both from 2017. And this from 2018. Made sure to do the decoding too to make sure and they all checked out and were extly as advertised. Figured I’d share some images. You can see the edge of the tin has some of that aged tobacco tar or what ever it is.

Oh yeah. I should say that I’m still only About 8 months into this awesome journey of getting to smoke delicious pipe tobacco. I don’t have anything aging in my cellar yet so this is a real treat for me. Also my first time smoking Sam Gawith Balkan flake. The reviews really had me exited to try it.

The sticker says 1 5 266 which translates to January 5th 2018. My Birthday is January 5th. Getting ready to smoke my first bowl of it now. 🙂🙂🍻

Might have to reconsider the "softness" of this blend. On the 3rd bowl I tried, (different days) it seemed anything but. Perhaps my palate was simply happy to have something new at first and that was pleasant as a change... Not much of a discriminating palate but I'm going to say I jumped the gun and I'm uncertain about this one until further into it. And I've got to remember that I find most C&D blends are much better after being in an unsealed but lidded tin for a couple weeks.

In my almost 3 decades of piping, I've smoked very few aromatics....other than some light Danish blends like Va#1, Symphony, Golden Extra....
But recently I've been trying a few out.
Just popped a tin of Cult Blood Red Moon due to so many positive reviews.
I'm having my first bowl now. I will report after 1/2 a tin or so.
