Not so much opening as refilling a tin from a jar - the elusive and rare Germain's Gold Leaf Ready Rubbed. I was very fortunate to get 200g bulk a while ago and eke it out like its precious metal namesake. Matured, slightly sweetened high quality Virginia leaf, sipping very slowly draws all of the flavors out. Very moreish, an exercise in self control.

. I've got a few tins of the Medium Flake in the cellar, and as you know it's the same blend as the Gold Leaf R/R just in a flake. I wish I had more but Gold Leaf R/R, Medium Flake, Brown Flake and Rich Dark Flake are rarely available these days. Never used to be this bad. Go back 5 years or so and it was readily available a lot of the time. I think a lot of it gets bought by the Chinese. Fucking shame.
Aylesbury Sir John’s Flake Virginia. This one came as one rolled up, long flake. I cut it into individual flakes. It was difficult to separate, but easier than if I’d let it dry- which would cause it to crumble. I’ll share my thoughts after a few pipes.
I opened another tin, and may have goofed up. The blend is C&D Gentleman Caller. Before reading any reviews, I packed a bowl into my new Peterson. THEN read a few reviews....they ALL say this blend ghosts a pipe horribly. We will see.....I ain't afraid of no ghosts.
Time to refill the Cabbie's jar again - 28 339 is the last day of February 2024, so a little bit of age on this. It's all good!
I don't know how long it's been available like this, but ages ago I was having a good old moan about the wastage of tins tipping 5 in a jar every time. Then suddenly, there were 250g bags! It was like a prayer being answered.

Apologies for a very misleading post. 2024 was a leap year so February had 29 days. Thus, the date code indicates the penultimate day of that month. Mea culpa.

Here’s an old cutter top of Anchor Smoking Mixture. It has a very fruity smell, but smokes kinda harsh. This one is a bust. Must have been aged in the toilet stall.

I was so bummed by the previous tin I cut another open. This one whooshed. The smell is like juicy fruit gum. This is a great smoke!! The tobacco gods have redeemed themselves.

Opened this at the end of the weekend. It's looking like it will be another delish' blend. If so, I'll be 2 for 2 on liking these HU blends.
I haven't had a bad HU Blend. All are IMHO top notch. Mix Directors Cut and Edward G 50/50 and add some Perique then you a third blend known as HU Delight. @Sigmund is the responsible Blender for this creation.
I suspect I'm going to find the same. Good news for me, I've several on the shelf to try.
Decided to pop open my tin of Yorktown before I finish off the Blockade Runner, to compare the two. So far I’m digging it, seems smoother from the get-go than other C&D red/bright blends.
