Yeah, I bought some from Germany back in 2019. Don't know when they finally stopped producing it.
That's so UK, isn't it? We always seem to get shafted, even back in the day - the really nice Three Nuns was export only in tins, pouches of second rate for the British plebs. For reasons I cannot fathom, Mac Baren and STG carried on the tradition - we only get pouches of ribbon cut Three Nuns and Capstan Blue, rolls and flakes much too good for us. Wtf?

Yeah, we definitely seem to be an afterthought these days. We never got anywhere near the full HH range. I guess we're just too small of a market when compared to other countries.

Guys the issue is Brexit as well as some of the paperwork demands of your government. The UK thinks as a business I need to jump through new and annoying hoops to do business with UK customers (business is not pipe or tobacco related). Many businesses outside the UK just decide its not worth the obstacles. I used to do considerable business in the UK. Now my old customers largely live in an environment starved of choice. Meanwhile those creating policy do so with the belief that there is still a British Empire. Its a shame for normal folks to suffer the arrogance of others.

When it comes to pipe tobaccos then BREXIT definitely hasn't helped, that's for sure. Hopefully they can sort things out a bit better in the coming years.

I would have thought it would be darker than that. I love this stuff but have only had it fresh. How does it compare with that much age on it?
It does darken up a bit, but maybe not a ton. First picture (no flash) probably better representation than second Pic (with flash)

I too like it fresh. With age, for me, it gets bigger, rounder. It's quite good. I'd have to count, but I'd guess I've got about 5# socked away in mostly 2oz but also some 8oz tins. I have yet to try Union Square that tasted "too old"

*apologies for delay in response, I haven't been on here much lately

I needed another open tin like a hole in the head, but @fireground_piper loves this blend so much that curiosity got the better of me!

It smells nice and fruity in the tin. I don’t think “rum” as much as perhaps a bit of… lychee? on top of the usual raisin/prune I get from Virginias. I immediately rubbed out one of the extra chunks in the tin and loaded my Virginia cob.

Enjoying it so far! It’s definitely a little different from the usual C&D blend of red and bright Virginia.

I’m due to open a fresh tin soon. 2022 was a fine year! I have at least 1 tin from the 10/22 batch.

I could have sworn I have more somewhere but they are alluding me. I appear to not have any from 2023.

Opening a tin like this is always special. Late 70s Dobies Four Square Curlies.
Stored ideally, cool and dry, for nearly 50 years.
Practically no rust or oxidation inside the tin, and tiny coins that remain lightly moist and full of British air of yesteryear.

Sweet, mellow tobaccos.. rich in flavor.. divine. Each bowl of it that is smoked becomes one to remember. It really is that good!
