My Escudo from Feb '22 was like thatPeterson Delixe Navy Rolls from Dec 22. Not sure why, but the coins are all fused together. Maybe from heat exposure before I purchased??View attachment 338636View attachment 338637View attachment 338638
Nice, well put together post.I bought this from a pipe shop sometime in the last decade of the previous millennia. So about 30 years old.
At first opening, my nose was hit with a strong sweetish/tangy aroma, something like apricot liquor.
After an hour of airing it out on a paper plate, the topping smell has burned off considerably and I can now smell the natural tobacco flavors.
I'll leave it out to dry out overnight before smoking a bowl.

Allegedly a little unsweetened black cav in there too
This was the first esoterica blend, and perique blend I ever tried. It smelled so fermented that I thought it had soured in some way. Had to take a sample to my local tobacconist and get his opinion. It made.me.fall in love w VA perique blends
One of my all time favorites. I love those little flakes, and how they're all stuck together
Be very interested in your thoughts on this as I have a generous quantity cellared but nothing of this age.I bought this from a pipe shop sometime in the last decade of the previous millennia. So about 30 years old.

I have only smoked two bowls thus far, so I hesitate to give a firm opinion. And you should be aware my palate is not particularly discerning. Usually, I smoke Latakia blends.Be very interested in your thoughts on this as I have a generous quantity cellared but nothing of this age.
I have smoked a couple of tins fresh 1-2 years ago, and my impression would have been the same.My *initial* impression of this tin of well-aged Mac Baren Scottish Mixture is:
mild, pleasant, burns well to dry ash.
No one flavor stands out--not the Burley, Virginia, or Kentucky.
This is often the effect of aging; marrying of flavors.
The topping is not noticeable in the smoke, which is fine by me.
An inoffensive all-day smoke, as they say. Nothing to complain about and nothing to rave about.
I will post here if future smokes modify this first impression.
Contact Jeremy at C&D, his email used to be on the C&D website. He would know. I really doubt anyone on here would know with any more certainty than him.Does anyone here know when, or if Warped Scarecrow will be available from smokingpipes.com? I have been looking for a good fall aromatic blend. suggestions also welcomed.

Yep, let 'em breathe a bit.Just opened these to breath for a couple of weeks before smoking. Been doing that for awhile, I like the results.

Interesting. Do you keep the lid on the tin, or keep the tobacco open to the air? I usually open a tin and leave it covered for a few days before jarring it but I might leave it longer like you doJust opened these to breath for a couple of weeks before smoking. I put the lid back on loosely. The are tins I would normally smoke through in under 2 weeks once I start.Interesting. Do you keep the lid on the tin, or keep the tobacco open to the air?
