It’s my understanding you don’t need or should have a cake build or even a 1mm layer in Meerschaum, that they’re suppose to be kept clean as possible.

I have heard the same. Perhaps that’s why they have a reputation for not ghosting? It’s my understanding you don’t need or should have a cake build or even a 1mm layer in Meerschaum, that they’re suppose to be kept clean as possible.

They do though. The material is a natural sponge, they absorb everything.have a reputation for not ghosting?
The antique ones that everyone seem to go so crazy for are often heavily caked and very well colored. I've kept them both ways as have others here with no issue either way. Misinformation abounds from both carvers and collectors so don't believe everything you read. It’s my understanding you don’t need or should have a cake build or even a 1mm layer in Meerschaum, that they’re suppose to be kept clean as possible.

Who started this crazy rumor??? Probably YTPC. I mean you can literally see the tobacco flavor trying to ooze its way out of the pipe! They do though. The material is a natural sponge, they absorb everything.
Been around longer than YT. Possibly sellers or carvers attempting to generate sells.Who started this crazy rumor??? Probably YTPC. I mean you can literally see the tobacco flavor trying to ooze its way out of the pipe!
I love it, as I only smoke BURVA blends. So it works for me!It’s weird to me that meerschaum gets sold as though it doesn’t ghost, but the fact that they do ghost is something I consider a virtue. I have a couple that are dedicated to certain blend types and I consider the fact that they are carrying the aroma of all the previous VA’s I’m smoked in them a huge asset. To each their own I suppose
Ali makes a great skull!I agree. Being a physician, I appreciate the anatomically correct versions best. Recently bought this Ali:

Hoping that it will color well.
Nic collection, I especially like the Doctors pipe. The supraorbital foramen detail blew me away!Ali makes a great skull!

Doctors' meerschaum skulls from the 1800's take it to another level rarely seen since.

Kenan really knocked it out of the park for a modern take though.

I figured those were lobotomy holes.
That is where the cranial nerve exits the skull. Your interpretation is more interesting however.I figured those were lobotomy holes.
The presence of those and the infraorbital foramen really blow me away with the older carvings.Nic collection, I especially like the Doctors pipe. The supraorbital foramen detail blew me away!
Skeletal structure has been a passion of mine since high school anatomy, skulls in particular. That is where the cranial nerve exits the skull. Your interpretation is more interesting however.
Those holes should be lover and more lateral. That is where the cranial nerve exits the skull. Your interpretation is more interesting however.
Depending on the shape of the face they can appear just above the brow and sometimes directly on it but usually line up with the infraorbital and mental foramen. That pipe is only one of a couple that I've seen feature all three. Those holes should be lover and more lateral.
