I got this cool little number from @ashdigger. I wish knew more about its maker (JBF). The pipe's case was marked "Oxblood Meer JBF". Orific bit and the old school case points to pre-1920, I think. It's one of my favorite pipes. @ashdigger knows how to find winners for sure.
That is a beautiful pipe, I may need to keep my eyes open for an oxblood stained...

It is a very beautiful piece, very organic. AKB is more of a distributor than a manufacturer and have a lot of talented carvers such as Hüseyin Ege, Kenan, Ali, and Tekin in their offerings.
Yep, I have bought two from AKB, this one and another that had no carvers name anywhere on it.

I've got a giant mountain lion meer from them that had no signature. It took two years of inquiry to find out it was a Kenan. No idea why, it's enormous and intricately carved.

Ali is notorious for no signature as well even with his skill.

I need to get in touch with Keenan at some point and see if he will do an accurate skull similar to yours, that is an amazing skull. Most of them are too comic bookish for my taste.

Ali can do some good ones as well like the pirate skull above.

Meerschaum Monday's are the best when you get a new pipe. Just arrived and newest member to the Meerschaum collection is this vintage Sailor with amber stem. Nomenclature is in German and translates to: Real Meerschaum, Real Amber. Pipe most likely originated from Austria, and possibly made by Andreas Bauer, Kaufthal, Strambach or another Meerschaum manufacturer. Pipe appears to be from 1960s to early 1970s. At least that's my best guess. If anyone has a better guess on year and/or manufacturer let me know. It needs a little cleaning but looks to be in fantastic shape.

Hello Friends @Copernicuslyrun @Chasing Embers
I rate translucency based on the distribution and amount of patterns and grains in the translucent layer
i.e. translucency is not meant as a translucent layer appearing on a white surface. Translucent layer should have patterns and grains.
Also, although generally translucent pipes tend to color more rapidly, rapid coloration is not a defining feature of translucent pipes.
Do you know that a block will have translucent properties before you start carving it, or is it something that emerges as you go?
