sablebrush52, Mr. Can probably has the record price for a Heritage (Kaywoodie) pipe. I can no longer find the listing, but I think he got about $120 for it. I am not even sure he had to list that more than once.
I agree with you on the issue of historical accuracy in his listings. That Heritage listing had its own example. He claimed that Heritage pipes were unique among Kaywoodies in possessing a two-step (I think that was how he labeled the tenon design) push tenon. I have seen those on Kaywoodies 30 years older than Heritage pipes.

I am intrigued by the possibility that several of us are chasing the same mystery Kaywoodie. The one I am eyeing is not in the list, so I am out of contention.

There have been a number of Kaywoodie's selling close to or over the $300 mark, sold by the usual suspects

ssjones, I think you have covered the top prices for Kaywoodies. That shank logo Author was the highest I have seen. That Colwright shank logo Pot was tempting, but the interior of the bowl looked a little rough.

What's with the stem logo on the straightgrain? Black clover on a white ground? I thought that didn't happen until much later.

I think it's a replacement stem. A good one. But not period correct. As far as I know that logo wasn't used on Kaywoodies until the Flame Grain line. Some of the later meerschaums had that logo on top like that. Later Straight Grain pipes probably had stems like that.

I did not notice that until you mentioned it. Didn't that logo first appear on the Flame Grains in 1937?
This might be relevant:

I think the ad shows the white clover logo.

Thought I'd put these pictures here and have you guys take a look. The pipe is packed away, so I can't give you the markings at the moment, my apologies for that. From what I've read, this type of stem logo indicates it's an older pipe?

xrundog, Too bad the market for blasted 'woodies is not as soft as the Kaywoodie market in general.
You can get all the Relief Grains you want cheap. Those mostly have the smooth uniform blast. I don't care for them. Old Thorns are a different matter. They didn't make that many, and some of what are left aren't very good. So there's competition for the good ones.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm going to have to find the pipe and look at the markings.

That is true. There are some gems among them, but they are mostly too plain. Silhouettes are often better, but they are harder to find. Thorns are the best bet, but you are right about them, too.

dmcmtk, I would love to know more about your sandblast Kaywoodie.
I just went looking for it. I recently moved, so everything is packed in boxes. I was defeated! Found some other interesting pipes...but not that Kaywoodie! I'll try again tomorrow.
