As far as I know, Meerschaum lined Kaywoodie pipes are Flame Grains. All Flame Grains have 2 digit stamps. Maybe there was an earlier meer-lined Kaywoodie. That would be a curiosity! I'd like to see it and know more about the stamps.
The bidding on that President makes NO sense. It's not a particularly nice one. I'm scratching my head.

The 61 shape number rang a bell. I checked my discard box and I have one just like that in similar condition. Time to clean it up and get it listed! :puffy:

dmcmtk, I see that shape pretty frequently. The difference may be the title used by the seller. The President shape is pretty desirable, but most sellers do not call it that. As xrundog points out, however, it is not even an unusually good specimen.

Buroak, I must apologize. I got home and looked at my meer lined, and it's not a 4 digit. I had it confused with the poker I won at the same time. I won them within 5 minutes of each other and haven't gawked at them in a while. It was an honest mistake and I hate I mispoke.

I'm definitely a neophyte when it comes to Kaywoodie, you guys know a lot more about the subject than I do! Objectively, I think it is a pretty cool shape. Xrun, go for it...you never know!

A few of us were watching this one, thinking if it sold, it might be a record for a Kaywoodie (it was unsold).

Mr. Can has been listing this one for years. He doesn't have to sell for a living, so he just lists, waiting for someone to meet his generally high prices. I've bought from, and sold to, him and he's a really nice guy. I enjoy his write ups, finding them entertaining though not necessarily historically accurate.
$400 plus would put that pipe at the top end of the range, but I've seen Kaywoodies go for the mid $300's, very rare pieces in immaculate condition. Kaywoodie has always struck me as underpriced, underrated, and a bargain on the estate market.

@dmcmtk: I'm eyeballing very hard a pipe on that current list - can you ID it?? (and the rest of you don't go and outbid me!)
They also have a Zippo list and one strictly for pipes. A sure fire way to separate cash from your wallet.

I'm a fan of Tony and he has been very helpful to me in ID'ing pipes, etc. He probably knows Kaywoodies better than any collector. Those are indeed all his pieces, no consignment work. I have no idea how he accumulates so many.

I just don't see the big deal in an early kaywoodie going for 150$, they cost more then Dunhills at one time.

wlrountree, Thanks for setting that straight for us. I thought you had stumbled across a truly "ultra-rare" Kaywoodie. These mix-ups do happen. After all, look how my foot-in-mouth misstep launched this conversation.

ssjones, Thanks for that link. We should congratulate xrundog for having a listing among the most watched. I am not surprised to see Pipestud and Coopersark listings in the mix.

Except for Dennis Moore.
I have my eye on a Kaywoodie. Hopefully it's not the one that you want. PM me and I'll pass on the auction if there's a conflict.
