None of my lighters leak. The first piic are all Duponts except for the old boy on the far right
I have two of these as I lost one in my house for a while.
i have 4 of these, one for each kid. I will buy a 5th for me next time it goes on sale.
I do believe this is my last Pipemaster and I also have a couple of Old Boys laying around.

You're totally right here, @cosmicfolklore . If I were using the zippo on a regular basis, maybe it would make no sense. I actually rarely use a zippo, as I prefer matches and my kiribi. Since I use the zippo maybe once a month, I thought that I'd try using the tire tube more as an experiment.
Not the dimes in fuel but the time to refuel which, as you know, is priceless.
I've bought a kiribi that I have been using over a year now and it has never let me down. Honestly, I was on the fence about spending $100 on a lighter, but I feel like it was well worth the money.
A few years ago my wife bought me a KIRIBI pipe lighter and I can honestly say it was worth the money. I don't know if I just got lucky and got a good one, or if all of them really are this good.
I started with a ZIPPO, but the lighter fluid gave my tobacco/cigars a faint taste of the fuel, so I switched to butane when I couldn't use matches.
I bought a Calibri, but it leaked quite a bit too, so it was replaced by the disposable BIC. Over time I tried many different butane lighters, that I can't remember the names of anymore, but I never had one I would consider a "nice" one. Just the Knock-offs that were, "You get what you pay for"
I guess what I'm saying is, if you want a quality lighter don't do what I did and buy 6 or 7 $50 lighters. Bite the bullet and buy one from a reputable Tobacconist that will stand behind his product, and tell him what you want, and what you expect.
I‘ve heard this before, but I find that this is a non-argument. If you light a Zippo and wait a few seconds before actually lighting your tobacco, the fuel taste evaporates.
There's still the stench of the fuel in the air regardless of how long you wait to light the pipe.
And "it" may be a non-argument for you, but it is for others.
I said this before, but.... First: Expensive lighters are a sucker deal. This advice comes from a former sucker... your's turly. Second: I don't care what anyone says! Liquid fuel lighters should not be used to light a pipe. They affect the taste.
The smart move is to go to a dollar store and buy one or two packs of cheap butane lighters at a time. If there is a little leakage, no big deal. They do the job and don't cost much. Then you can spend the money saved on a quality pipe and tobacco.

Your experience is your experience. I have a handful of good butane lighters and don't feel particularly suckered. Turly!

Sam's Club used to sell a brick of 50 brand X butanes for (if I remember correctly) about $18. Which was a real deal. I say "used to" because they no longer have any tobacco related products at the one I shop at. Too bad! Now it's the dollar stores for me.

My Old Boy's don't leak. At least that I've noticed. Over time the seals will go but we're talking years. My Zippo doesn't leak, it just distributes old BBQ starting memories. I was a feature that was built right in. I didn't have to pay extra for it.
New idea!! Fill the Zippo with fragrance, or even Fabreze (ugh)- and you have a portable liquid pot pourri!
