Brumfit's used to be in High Holborn in London and sold scientific instruments and all sorts of Victorian type scientific gizmo's like Wimshurst machines. I never knew they made pipes but I remember the shop with all the Victorian/Edwardian cabinets and boxes of beautifully cased dissection tools. Having a pipe section does not surprise me.

Apperently the brand survived in name, the pipes are widely available as basket pipes and some show really decent graining. "John Brumfit Great British Classics", aka "Make Britain Great Again ".

That’s right. Great British Classics…….made in Italy! Lol
I had two of them. Decent tasting ‘virgin like’ briar, comfy stems & lots of fills. Good basket pipes.

It was Memorial Day this past Monday here in the United States. À propos, the Sasieni's owner was Anson Angus Merrick Sr, born 2 Mar 1886 and deceased 5 Nov 1962 (aged 76); he was a "graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, class of 1909. ... [and veteran of the] U. S. Army Spanish American War and World War I .." What an interesting person, a man of a different era. The pipe is all the more a treasure knowing it belonged to him. I attempt, whenever possible, to discover who the previous owner of a pipe may have been and although more often than not it is fruitless, in this case it bore a pleasant surprise. Angus's box of dusty old pipes is a treasure indeed.
