Astley's used to be the red-headed stepchild of the estate pipe world, so that is very high. Someone bought all their stock, and the James Upshall pipe name/inventory and devalued both brands. He has since passed, and I haven't watched Astley values, but that seems pretty high to me.
It would largely depend on the Astleys.

If it can be proven a pipe was made by Les Wood, Dunhill, etc it can have a great effect on value. Astleys has a fascinating history.

Unsmoked of any variety will also add to the value obviously.

That's interesting info. Could you point me to somewhere I can find further information regarding Les Wood making Astley pipes? I was under the impression he only occasionally made mounts for them and that Upshall made the actual pipes. I'd love to read up on it.

A number of unsmoked Astley's did quite well today.

This 9BC "Good Health" pipe was interesting. The Good Health pipes were Petersons attempt at a filter pipe, but were not successful. I guess the Peterson brethren found the system pipes fit their needs better, and the line didn't last long. I would consider this a low grade Pete, and the 9BC stamp added the value.

We had the privilege of auctioning several Astleys, which consisted of the last pipes the Bentley family owned. 15 in total, all unsmoked and 8 made by Les. We suspect Charatan made the others, but we can't be sure. Upshall did make pipes for Astleys, as did Les, Charatan, Dunhill and I'm sure others.

Upshall becomes a bigger part of the story once Astleys closes, as that's who Paul Bentley sold roughly 1700 pipes to. Upshall / Ezrati also received the Astleys stamps from Dunhill, and all of the bowls that Dunhill was working on. Bob Bentley was very kind to dig up a bunch of old Astleys documents for us and Get Piped to use in a video they made for their YouTube channel documenting the history of Astleys. I'll attach it below.

While not much is written about Les making pipes for Astleys, he did pop into a Facebook pipe group to comment on remembering making the pipes being auctioned.

Like a lot of nice pipes being auctioned nowadays, most will be going to Asia

I was watching this one:

It's a beauty. If you look at old Ferndown boxes, you'll see a resemblance. The cumberland is another giveaway.

I bought one pipe for myself in Chicago and it was an unsmoked Les Wood bulldog. I have a thing for older unsmoked pipes.

For obvious reasons ( at least to me ) I really fancied this one .
What deterred me from bidding is the rounded inner rim, I suspect it was worked on.
The pipe is given its age "way too clean".

Not Ebay, but this auction house had about 40 lots of British pipes go off today, typically multiples and all appeared unsmoked, in factory boxes. I had never used HiBid before, but registered. I hoped for a competitive bid on this GBD trio of New Era pipes, which included a 9438 (all unsmoked). I was out bid and next bid called for $225+. The sellers fees were 18%, plus state tax and a vague shipping charge. So, I let my $160 bid fall to the wayside. Apparently the final winning bid is not shown here.
