I gave up on this pipe for $730 at the last auction and miraculously got it at yesterday's auction for $86! I don't even believe this is true!So, the unsmoked Barling with the frankenpipe stemming went back up for auction with a slightly different result from the first auction. Next, get the shank crack stabilized and have a proper stem made for it. Then, enjoy your pipe.
Probably not thrilled, especially if the seller was responsible for creating the Frankenpipe in the first place. But, that's the risk one takes buying and selling.
Part of what makes the whole thing so odd. My suspicion is that the frankenpipe was made by someone else, and the seller unknowingly got stuck with a frankenpipe. This is why you need to know what you're doing when dealing with vintage stuff.
Don't know him from a hole in the ground. But I see that he's sold a lot of pipes over the past 10 years. Is he a fixer, like Great Estates, and Secondhandpipes, or just a seller, like Treasurepipes. You can be a trader, and not know much about what you're trading. Then again, you can be a fixer and still not really know a lot about what you're selling. Most people really don't know all that much about pipes.

Certainly worthy of note was last week's 1926 Parker magnum billiard. Notwithstanding considerable stem oxidation, its rim, nomenclature and chamber suggest it was an unusually sound example of an exceedingly rare pipe from Parker's early glory days as a sub-brand of Dunhill. Given the typical going price for Dunhill magnums, $1000 was quite a decent deal.

There are no visible signs of cracks in the bowl. You can see from the photo how large it is compared to a normal sized pipe (the smaller pipe is for illustration purposes only and is not included in the sale).

Speaking of impressive Dunhill magnums (selling Sunday for an impressive $3850, although clearly the top bidder would have been happy to pay more--judging from the bidding history), this one in a ventage case is a beaut.

Early Ben Wade "Selected Grain" Leeds 277 Panel Pipe | eBay
I haven't been fortunate enough to get my hands on a lot of Ben Wade's earlier work and I must say that I'm impressed! My restorations tend to be on the exterior of the pipe. Interiors WILL NEED TO BE CLEANED by the new owner unless otherwise noted.
