I'm assuming it was a buy it now. About a decade ago I took a quick midday break to do a pipe search on eBay and came across an 8 Dot Sasieni Amesbury listed as a buy it now for $20 that had been listed a couple of minutes before I signed on. I hit that button so fast it created a sonic boom. Turns out that the pipe was near mint. Great smoker!
It was. It took about 45 seconds from the time I saw it until somebody bought it.
Has anyone else noticed that pipes from sellers based in Japan tend to be somewhat ... more expensive?
The stem to the top pipe in the Comoy set has problems.Did any of the comoys fans go for this?

The Comoy's set has been ridden hard and put away wet. Might clean up, might not. When I see a set like this one I can't help but wonder just what else lies beneath.
Al,My top bid was $3 too low. I would have liked to have won this one. I've been collecting GBD's for 11 years now, and check Ebay auctions for that brand every day. I've never seen a GBD true Author shape. "Extra" grade, which is older, although I'm not sure about Rodrigo's claim of the 1920's. The button doesn't necessarily strike me as 1920's, but the smaller GBD rondell was used in the 1930's, and validated with hallmarked pipes. Maybe the winner will turn out to be a dead-beat buyer!

Much contrary to his custom by the way. I agree about the button and the smaller rondell theory though.
As much as I liked it, I decided not to bid in the last seconds. Quite happy for the winner, price is very agreeable.

One of my much older Comoy's is a wonderful bent billiard Old Bruyere.
The stem has the clover logo, it is quite rare and only seen on very early pipes.
Sadly the former owner cut off the bit, so the stem is in dire need of restoration or replacement !

I like Barlings very much, but I tend to collect pipes to fill a niche rather than to serve a compulsion.
From what I can make out from the pics it’s from 2000.
