Just another pipe in the wall.
Woke up this morning and was informed that I had won this specimen.
A Lumberman (canadian) 4402 DC with silverband proably from 1974, I think. (in all other catalogs Lumbermans have a taper stem)

An interesting Comoy's Specimen with a BIN, looks unrestored (a good thing....)
I'm not familiar with this seller, they have a pretty high Ebay seller number.

I watched the auction, the shape takes an acquired taste, but I like it .
The pipe looks a little rough, I'm not familiar with the seller either.

Nice Kottan!

Looks like someone got a decent deal on this 322. I was on a bike ride, missed it...

Thank you, Al!
I have’nt seen this 322DC (called ‘The Pickwick‘) either though I search ebay several times a week.
I still miss a 322 but in this case this seller doesn't ship to Germany anyway.
The pipe looks good so far but I’m a bit irritated regarding the stamping 322DC. The letters have a smaller size than the numbers and there is a period between them.
I know this is a personal problem of mine because I try to collect Charatans which are made before 1977(to exclude “Dunhills"). And -may be it's only the angle of the first photo – the stamping is very near to the stem fit.

Nice grab Kottan!

Thanks Al!
Here is another good looking Charatan apple but according to the stamped shape code 2122X it should be fitted with a saddle mouthpiece instead of a tapered (Charatan catalog 1967). As you know an X always denotes a saddle stem. So the stem must be a replacement. I wonder if it is an original from Charatan or if the Cp logo was recreated by someone else, who made this new taper stem. Since the pipe has no Lane stamp it was probably manufactured for the European market.

Looks a lot like my incomplete set which is from the same period I believe.

Yep. I'd guess from the late 40's to the '50's on these, based on the stampings, notably, the TVF stamp.

The other set could be as early as the late "30's, since the s-m size was available, and the stem shaping is consistent with late 30's thru to the end. And there are some who link the calfskin case without the gold piping around the top as being WW2 vintage. There's no evidence to prove that.

Jesse, picture 4 from the eBay listing shows a reg stamp on the underside of the near pipe’s stem but I can’t make it out on my phone. Can you tell which it is?

Hi Jon,

Good catch! It's not a patent. It's a Barling DESIGN stamp, so 1950 or later. It's also possible that the case isn't original since the fit around the saddle is way off. That, or the pipes are not in their correct slots, or one of the pipes isn't original to the set.
