From what I read, the Wolf had a version long before Willie put it to paper, so to speak. Maybe this was an acknowledgement that satisfied them both.

There's another great story of how Muddy stole Hubert Sumlin and the Wolf stole him back; they loved a shenanigan.

I think when dealing with the blues as a genre you have to consider covers, originals, collaborations, reworking, samples, remasters, reawakening and an entire mythos akin to Greek legend. It can make disravelling originals from covers incredibly difficult.
