Hey All,
As we delve deeper into this Seasons Greetings & all that good stuff. I can’t stop and ponder my beloved cobs as the weather gets more chilled and the precipitation begins to freeze and crystallize. I tend to smoke them more and more these days. That’s not to say that I’m against briar in any way. I’ll always have a few of them knocking round. It’s just that My cobs along with my relatively new affinity for meerschaum has me now.

But those cobs baby, those cobs! ?? ? For all of you that have a love for cobs please lay down your pipe porn for me please.

Here’s a picture of mine…now let’s see yours!??☕

This thread is not for some of you.

I have two real 'cobs'.

One is the subject of this thread:

The latest:

The other is the 'control' cob being kept out of the elements. So far, the simple cob has held up quite well.

Absolutely beautiful. MM should seriously consider the Canadian Weathered Cob ($25.99).

Ah, the lowly, disposable cob. I've had a lot of great smokes using a cob. Rarely a bad smoke, usually a decent smoke. But, I treat the cob as a disposable, shop, fishing, and harsh environment smoking tool. They get misplaced in the shop, driven over by the tractor, forgotten on a tree stump, the gamut of what would be a disaster with a briar. A sturdy, trusty tool that, when, smashed, lost or misplaced hardly causes an eyebrow to raise.

It's true, I'd rather run my car over a cob than my Ser Jacopo or Ferndown, but cobs sure feel like permanent pipes. Some of them last for decades, and the ones with acrylic stems can keep their original stems. Granted, I have a number of pipes, but I haven't had a cob burn out yet. I tend to take them when I travel, so I guess that makes them more disposable. But dispose of a cob? It's an unpleasant thought.

Warren, you really should be more careful with your tools.
I'm extremely careful with my tools which provide income. Cobs, they have a purpose in my arsenal for sure. They provide a safer environment for my briars and meers. Those live mostly in safety. Cobs are on the front line for abuse. Bless their wee hearts, always taking one for the team!

We’re all disposable. Have an expiration date. What’s funny is that these Cobs of mine will still be here when I’m gone!

In my opinion, the only reason they’re considered, “expendable” — I prefer that to “disposable”. ….. the only reason they’re expendable is due to cost.

Some of the special cobs selling toward $50 USC and available in limited runs? I’d sure feel the pain of loss or damage to one of those beautiful pipes.

But, simple as I am, my favorite cob—the MM Country Gentlemen can be had for a mere $10.95 —so I own eight.
